Despite not making the 1-2-3, Black Sparrow is still fancied to be bang there at the finish after showing up well on debut when third to a Mark Johnston runner who had the benefit of experience. Gordonstoun was evidently thought capable of more when only third at Lingfield, but should be capable of more now. His jockey eased off him in the dying strides when the race had been decided, and Charlie Fellowes should benefit considerably from that decision after staying on to grab fourth on debut. However, preference is for HOT SCOOP who was keen when taken on for the lead last time but is worth another chance on the form he showed when second to Mighty Gurkha.
