Smart gelding. 18/1, below form tenth of 17 in handicap at Ascot (8f, good to soft) 29 days ago, finding test too much. Blinkers back on and it would be no surprise to see him bounce back with a bold show as he bids to repeat his 2024 success in this race.

Useful gelding. Latest win at Chester in May. 33/1, sixteenth of 17 in handicap at York (7.9f, good to firm) 44 days ago. Others make more appeal.

Useful gelding. Five wins from 16 Flat runs. 2 wins from 5 runs this year. Ninth of 12 in handicap (7/1) at Goodwood (7f, good to firm) 42 days ago, racing closer to pace than ideal. Grey's Monument is presumably the stable No 1.

Smart colt. Cheekpieces on for 1st time, 10¾ lengths seventh of 11 to Marvelman in Park Stakes (8/1) at Doncaster (7f, good) 21 days ago. Definite chance if he puts his best foot forward.

Smart colt. C&D winner. 85/40, creditable head second of 6 to Remmooz in listed race at Newbury (7f, good to soft) 15 days ago. Very much the one to beat on the back of that fine effort.

Lightly-raced winner. Didn't need to be at best when winning 6-runner maiden at Newcastle (7.1f, 6/4) 15 days ago, having run of race. Best days are surely still ahead of him, but this demands a significant step forward.

Useful filly. Latest win at Galway in July. Well-beaten last of 10 to Rosy Affair in listed race (20/1) at Pontefract (6f, good) 48 days ago, doing too much too soon. Looks set for another struggle.

Useful mare. 7/4, respectable 1½ lengths third of 13 to Sunfall in listed race at Ascot (7f, good) on final run of last season. 12-month absence is naturally a concern, but the ability is there for her to play a leading role if fully tuned-up.

Forecasts

Volterra (8/11), Room Service (9/2), Elim (11/2), Dubai Beach (13/2), Grey's Monument (10/1), Myal (12/1), Palmar Bay (18/1), Royal Zabeel (20/1), Perfect Part (40/1), Great Dream (80/1), Tropical Island (100/1)

15:56 Redcar - 4 October 2025 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

There was much to like about the way VOLTERRA went through the race when going close at Newbury last time and Kevin Ryan's charge is fancied to go one better here. Last year's winner Grey's Monument is likely to be cherry-ripe in his repeat bid and is greatly respected, while Room Service will be a threat if on-song and Dubai Beach is not without hope either.
