Had a productive winter on the all-weather and translated that back onto turf when third on this course (1m) in May. Not in the same form since, again backing out of things rather tamely at Yarmouth (9.1f, soft) 9 days ago. Will need to step up on his most recent efforts.

2-2 as a 3-y-o and has improved in Racing League handicaps over the summer, runner-up at Wolverhampton prior to going one better in a 13-runner handicap at Chepstow (8f) last month, digging deep under pressure. Going the right way and could be more to come over this longer trip.

Edged out only by the highly progressive My Cloud on Newbury return and went one better in lesser company at Nottingham next time. Has remained in form since, caught further back than ideal when running on to finish fifth in a 16-runner handicap at Goodwood last month. Should remain competitive.

Both wins this year have come at Musselburgh but has struggled in strongly contested handicaps on turf since, for all he was too free in first-time cheekpieces at York (10.3f) last month. Headgear removed for this drop in grade but could again prove vulnerable to improvers.

Easily landed the odds (1/7) in a Windsor novice last month but has struggled in handicaps since. Now tackles a longer trip in lesser company but has a bit to prove on the back of his previous two efforts.

Runner-up in a strong 1m handicap at this course in May and better than ever to win at York (8.8f) in June. Not in the same form in pair of 10f handicaps there subsequently, carrying head awkwardly with headgear refitted last time. Goes without headgear here and handicapper has given him a chance.

Opened his account for the season when stepped up in trip at Wetherby (10f) in June. Not in the same form on easier ground next time but not disgraced back over 1m on the all-weather last month. Market should prove informative with yard also saddling Classic Encounter.

Nottingham maiden winner improved to go close on handicap debut over 1m at Ascot in July. Possible excuses on two subsequent starts, faced with a longer trip and softer ground when well held at Ascot earlier this month. Could be seen to better effect back down in trip on better ground.

Course winner ran a cracker when 4th of 17 in a better handicap than he need contest at York and ran creditably to finish fourth in a 9-runner handicap that wasn't run to suit at Yarmouth (9.1f, soft) 9 days ago. In the mix if granted a stronger gallop here.

Solid form when successful on handicap debut/reappearance at this course (1m) but hasn't built on early season promise, doing too much too soon when midfield in a 17-runner handicap at York (7.9f) last month. Gelded since and could be worth another chance returned to this track.

Had been shaping better than the result prior to justifying market confidence at Sandown (1m) last month, softer ground bringing out the best in him at the trip. In excellent hands and could improve again for this track/stiffer test.

Ended a losing run in battling fashion in a 13-runner handicap at Yarmouth (8f) and back that up when a close third at Windsor last month. Possibly found a busy spell catching up with him when below form on the all-weather last time. Respected if back in the form he showed at Windsor.

Progressive sort who landed the odds in a 9-runner maiden at Lingfield (1m, AW) last month and improved again when a well backed runner-up on handicap debut at Haydock (8.2f, good to firm) 20 days ago. Could be open to further improvement over this longer trip.

Forecasts

Mezcala (7/2), Classic Encounter (5/1), Shamrock Bay (11/2), Man Of La Mancha (13/2), Boyfriend (15/2), Mythical Guest (8/1), Hymnbook (12/1), King Casper (12/1), Competizione (14/1), Thunder Wonder (14/1), Jimmy Speaking (22/1), Mr Baloo (33/1), Brasil Power (80/1)

16:45 Newmarket - 26 September 2025 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

A trappy handicap in which MAN OF LA MANCHA marginally gets the vote. He showed improved form when successful at Sandown last time and should be suited by this track and longer trip. Classic Encounter had plenty of solid form earlier in the season (including when second on this course) and could prove the main danger back in calmer waters. King Casper is interesting returning to this track having been gelded, while Hymnbook looks worth another chance.
