10f maiden winner last summer who has yet to recapture the pick of his 3-y-o form this time around, fifth of 7 in handicap at Newbury (12f, good to firm) 40 days ago. Mark has eased a little more ahead of this with blinkers now discarded if he can bounce back.

Lightly-raced, dual AW scorer, including on return in March but found the step up to listed company too much both subsequent runs, albeit forcing a sound gallop when tailed off on July course 68 days ago. Joined yard who are a dab hand with new recruits since and return to handicaps a big plus.

Won 11.9f handicap at York in July and good efforts on 2 of his 3 runs since, hold-up tactics not the way to go when running on second of 9 in handicap at Chester (12.3f, good, 4/1) 12 days ago. Nudged up 2 lb on the back of that but respected nevertheless.

Resumed winning ways under today's rider on July course (12f) 4 starts back but not operating at the same level in trio of subsequent runs at up to 14f. Has at least fallen back down to last winning mark ahead of this but others appeal more for win purposes.

Opened his account at Haydock (11.8f) in June and similar form on 2 of his 3 runs since, able to dictate a modest pace in first-time cheekpieces when fifth of 9 in handicap at Windsor (11.4f, firm, 22/1) 42 days ago. This ease in class rates a plus from further reduced mark.

Dual purpose performer who was successful on Flat/over hurdles in 2022. Regained winning thread in latter sphere at Market Rasen (16.6f) last summer but absent since finishing a good third at Perth (16.2f) 13 months ago. Interesting what the market makes of him.

Confirmed debut promise when landing 11-runner Windsor novice (1m) last summer and despite being sent off favourite, he probably needed the run following a year off when third of 9 in novice at Kempton (12f) 36 days ago. Likely he has more to offer now handicapping.

Well-bred sort who showed promise in a trio of AW maiden/novice events at 1m in the spring. Cheekpieces on 1st time, found himself not seen to best effect when fifth of 7 on handicap debut at Chester (12.3f) in May and he certainly remains with potential as a stayer back from a break.

Forecasts

Son Of Man (9/4), My Kinda Ghaiy (11/4), Shrimp Shady (18/5), Secret Beach (5/1), Burj Zabeel (13/2), First Officer (7/1), Kate O'Riley (17/2), Houstonn (9/1), Chaos Control (33/1)

16:45 Newmarket - 25 September 2025 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

Plenty with chances in an open-looking handicap but SECRET BEACH has showed enough on his last 2 outings to think his current mark is exploitable and in the hope he gets a good gallop to aim at, he could be the answer. Son of Man following his good Sandown third and Houstonn are others to consider, with My Kinda Ghaiy another to note for the trainer who landed this prize 12 months ago.
