Several solid efforts in major sprint handicaps last season, including when beaten a whisker in this race off a 1 lb higher mark. Rounded off 2024 campaign on a high, winning a Group 3 at Ascot, but it's all been rather low-key this year and others make more appeal.

Dual 6f winner who produced a fine effort when ½-length second to subsequent Group 1 winner Big Mojo in the Pavilion Stakes at Ascot during the spring. Said to have finished lame when well held at the Royal meeting in June and resumes on a lofty mark for handicap debut.

Enhanced fine Chester record by bagging a 5f handicap there in May and 6f listed event on penultimate start. Did well to finish as close as he did when sixth in the major York handicap won by Trefor last time, but his latest win away from the Roodee on these shores was back in May 2022.

Enjoyed a phenomenal 2024 when winning 7 times over 5f/6f. Yet to hit the target this season, but edging back down the weights as a consequence and left the strong impression that his turn is near when fifth in a valuable, big-field handicap at the York Ebor meeting. One to consider.

Consistent type who notched his third success of this season when narrowly prevailing in a major York handicap (5.4f, good) last month, with several of these rivals behind. More needed up 5 lb here, but he's hard to knock and should give it a good shot.

It's now 17 runs since his last win in 2024, but he has been knocking on the door this year, most notably finishing a a solid third in the Stewards' Cup at Glorious Goodwood. Third of 16 at Ascot (5f, good) last weekend and each-way claims with first-time cheekpieces enlisted here.

Enjoyed a productive 2024 campaign and more good efforts than bad ones this year, for all that he's yet to strike this season. Easy to forgive a rare below-par display at York 3 weeks ago and live each-way chance judged on his fine fourth in the Stewards' Cup at Glorious Goodwood.

Winner of 2 of his first 3 starts prior to encountering traffic problems when a close third on handicap debut at Chepstow. Quickened nicely when striking at Newmarket (6f, good) 9 days later and while this is more demanding up 5 lb, he has the look of a sprinter going places.

Won twice on the AW earlier this year and resumed winning ways on turf when coming from off the pace to land an 11-runner Newbury handicap (5.2f, good to firm) last month. Has a C&D success to his name, too, but he's yet to score off a mark this high and is likely to find one or two too good.

Back on the scoresheet at York in July and has added another couple of handicaps to his tally (both at 6f) the last twice. Remains on a workable mark, but he's come up short in the last 2 runnings of this contest and a similar scenario is anticipated this time round.

Healthy strike rate on the AW (4-19) and while his record on turf is not so good (1-24), he put in a good shift when sixth of 17 in the Great St Wilfrid at Ripon (6f, good to firm). Still, a clear career-best will be needed if he's to take this.

Largely consistent this season, placed several times before deservedly getting her head back in front at Thirsk (6f, good) late last month. Followed up with Lauren Young again aboard over the same C&D last weekend and she should give another good account.

14:25 Doncaster - 13 September 2025 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

While 3-y-os do not possess a great recent record in this race, ADDISON GREY did the job in the manner of a sprinter on a steep upward curve at Newmarket and he is taken to emulate 2019 winner Oxted, who is the only 3-y-o to land the Portland since 2001. There are dangers pretty much everywhere you look, with Jordan Electrics, who caught the eye at York last time, and Air Force One both greatly respected. The hat-trick seeking Eternal Sunshine, Trefor and Venture Capital are others to consider.
