Back down to his last winning mark and solid effort when beaten a whisker by the re-opposing Copper Knight at Chester (5f, good to soft) last month. Down the field in a stronger race at Yarmouth on Thursday, though.

Dual winner of 7f handicaps last summer but primarily campaigned over 6f this season, his best efforts when placed at Doncaster in April and June. On the downside, he's still 4 lb above his last winning mark, despite arriving here on a 10-race losing run, and dropping back to 5f may not be ideal.

Navan maiden winner during a stint in Ireland last season and didn't shape at all badly from a less-than-ideal position on yard debut following 11 months (also first run since being gelded) over this C&D 15 days ago. That spin will have blown away the cobwebs and he's of strong interest down 2 lb.

Several pieces of solid C&D to his name during the last couple of years, including solid placed efforts in significant handicaps at the Dante and Ebor meetings last season. However, he comes with real risks attached judged on what he's shown in a handful of appearances so far in 2025.

Redoubtable veteran who has won no less than 7 times over this C&D. Latest of those wins gained around 2 years ago, but he's already won twice elsewhere this season and gave it a good shot from the front when fourth of 16 back here recently. Rock-solid claims.

Winner of a Brighton maiden and Windsor handicap (both 6f) on first 2 starts upon joining this yard last season. Hasn't done much wrong in 3 runs so far this season (probably went off too hard when runner-up at Nottingham last time) and he's one to consider off a plausible mark.

Capitalised on the handicapper's mercy dropped to this trip at Thirsk last month, but this season's campaign has otherwise been a rather uneventful one, so it wasn't the biggest of surprises that he failed to build on that Thirsk success when out with the washing at Haydock 3 weeks ago.

Resumed winning ways at Pontefract in April and has remains in good form since, making the frame on each of his next 4 starts. However, she wasn't able to continue that run when only sixth at Newcastle last time and new mark (now 2 lb higher than at Newcastle) has since kicked in.

Managed to hit the target twice in 2024, taking a Bath handicap and an AW claimer. Decent start to this season, runner-up on return at Kempton in April before twice performing with credit at Windsor the following month, but form has dipped since and he now looks vulnerable.

Hit the crossbar twice over this C&D in September 2023 before deservedly going one better back here the following month. Placed twice from 4 visits last year, but yet to fire this season (well held at this course last 2 starts) and now finds himself with a bit to prove.

Poor strike rate and the most recent of the 2 career wins he's registered from 43 starts overall was gained back in August 2023. Little impact all 5 starts for new yard this year and it's probably best to look elsewhere.

Consistent performer this year, notching a couple of wins in May. Another one of these who wasn't seen to best effect in the recent C&D handicap won by Brazen Bolt and he's a live each-way candidate.

Wasn't winning out of turn when striking at Pontefract (5f, good to firm) late last month and followed that with a creditable third over the same C&D next time. Shade more will be needed if he's to take this, but it's unlikely that he will be far away.

Paid his way in 2024 (won 3 times) and made every post a winning one when opening his account for this season at Catterick in April. Majority of his subsequent efforts have been creditable and his sole previous success on the Knavesmire came with Jonathan England aboard in the 2022 running of this.

Winner of this in 2021 and 2023. Snapped a losing streak on final outing for David O'Meara at Sandown (5f, good) last September, but yet to find his feet for present yard and hopes largely pinned on the refitting of a visor (in place of usual cheekpieces) helping to spark a return to form.

Bagged a C&D novice in 2022 and since added 3 handicaps to her tally, the latest over 6f on the AW in February. Below par initially back on turf this year, but latest Haydock second represented a step in the right direction and she's not discounted.

Right back to form when decisively outpointing a couple of next-time-out winners in a first-time tongue strap at Haydock (5f, good to firm) earlier this month. Unlucky not to follow up recently at Doncaster and he has to enter calculations.

Limited to just 4 runs in 2024, the pick of which was his close third in this race 12 months ago. Has made the frame over 6f at Redcar and Nottingham this season, but he again looks vulnerable from a win point of view.

The form of FORTUNATE STAR's decisive Haydock success earlier this month has been well-advertised since and he was unlucky not to go in again at Doncaster next time. The 5-y-o is clearly at the top of his game and he could be the answer to this wide-open handicap. Air Force One shaped with plenty of encouragement over C&D on his recent yard debut/seasonal reappearance and he is second choice ahead of the 2022 winner of this, Birkenhead. Others to consider include Copper Knight and Protest Rally.
