Spring Mile winner at Doncaster (1m, good) in March (second past the post but subsequently promoted) before finishing nearer last than first off this 4 lb higher mark at Newbury. Needs to bounce back but the fact that he has performed well on each of his 3 previous visits to this track augurs well.

Made it third time lucky for this yard when landing a 6f Wolverhampton handicap last summer and followed that with solid efforts in defeat at Ascot and Newcastle (both 6f). Seemingly unsuited by testing conditions on final run of 2024 and could have a part to play from the rail draw if raring to go.

Registered third C&D success (and fifth overall at Chester) on heavy ground in September (also effective on good but ideally wouldn't it faster). Not in the same form next 2 starts, though, and while he has gone well when fresh in the past, stall 14 is hardly ideal for one that likes to go forward.

Proved better than ever last year, winning 3 times, including over this C&D last May. Bettered reappearance effort (things didn't go his way on that occasion) when fifth at Musselburgh but he could do with some rain (has won once on good but appears to be ideally suited by slower ground).

Winless since striking at Kempton last spring but now 2 lb below that mark and has subsequently acquitted himself well on a number of occasions, not least when going close in the Lincoln Trial at Wolverhampton in March. Well-drawn for his first visit to the Roodee and makes some each-way appeal.

Went the wrong way following an encouraging second on belated reappearance at Salisbury last term but, having been gelded during the autumn, he took a step forward in first-time blinkers when making all in 7f Catterick novice last month. Much more on his plate now back in handicap company, though.

Successful at Wolverhampton (9.5f) in November (dead-heated but subsequently awarded the race outright) and good second over the same C&D later that month. On the downside, his form has dipped since and he hasn't won on turf for the best part of 3 years.

Didn't shape badly when returning from a lengthy absence at Wolverhampton in March but below par both subsequent starts and others make more appeal.

Successful at Pontefract on second run of 2024 campaign and made a winning reappearance this time round, getting on top close home in a 6f Newcastle handicap last month. 2 lb nudge fair enough and return to this trip looks a good move, so there is certainly cause for optimism.

Off the mark at second attempt for this yard at Beverley last June and then found just one too good in the Carlisle Bell. Also placed twice on the AW during the winter but lack of a recent run is a worry (his record when fresh isn't great) and he remains 7 lb above that winning mark at Beverley.

Winner here back in 2022 and good start to last season when landing back-to-back 7f handicaps at Doncaster and Muuselburgh. Didn't shape badly back from 6 months off at Newcastle in January and, though well held next 2 starts, he'll be a threat if the first-time cheekpieces have the desired effect.

Hit the target at Doncaster last May and had paid his way on the AW in recent months, winning twice over 6f at Lingfield and Kempton during the winter. Conversely, the return to this trip didn't appear to work in his favour back at Kempton last time and it's probably best to look elsewhere.

Strike rate on turf is hardly compelling (1-31) but he's pretty consistent on the whole and followed his all-the-way 7f success on polytrack at Lingfield in March with a creditable fourth of 10 back on grass from an unfavourable draw at Pontefract (5f, good). Well-drawn this time and he's a player.

A double-figure draw is typically disadvantageous round here, particularly at up to 1m, but PEARL EYE, like the last two winners of this handicap, is taken to prevail from stall 12. He has admittedly become a shade inconsistent but his three previous spins round here all resulted in good efforts and he'll have strong claims granted a reproduction of the form he showed at Doncaster in March. Thunder Blue is feared most but cases can also be made for Boardman, Intervention and Liamarty Dreams.
