Still capable of smart form this term, third in Charlie Hall at Wetherby on return and runner-up in Veterans' Final at Market Rasen in January. Bit below that level when fourth of 7 in Denman Chase at this course 3 weeks ago, but he's a major player back in a handicap.

Successful only start in 2021/22 and landed the London National at Sandown on return the following season. Pulled up in Welsh National next time, but left that effort behind when winning the Grand National Trial at Haydock in February 2023. Has been absent since, though.

Goes well fresh and scored for the first time since his big-race success at this C&D in 2021 when winning veterans' handicap at Haydock in December. However, he's run below form all 3 starts since, including in race won by Credo last time. Cheekpieces now reached for.

Capitalised on the drop in grade at Carlisle on return in December. However, was suited by the way race developed and has gone backwards from that effort in 2 veterans' races since, tried in cheekpieces when well held at Warwick 3 weeks ago. Others more persuasive.

Useful handicapper at best and, with visor applied for first try in veterans' company, returned to winning ways at Exeter 20 days ago, jumping soundly and scoring by 4½ lengths from Gustavian. Was suited by the strong gallop last time but she can remain competitive.

Back-to-back winner in veterans' handicaps last season and ran well on 3 of his first 4 starts this campaign, including when third in Rowland Meyrick at Wetherby on Boxing Day. However, lacklustre effort at Wincanton last time so bounce back now called for.

Without a win since 2022/23, though put up a good effort when a close second in an Aintree handicap on Boxing Day. Fell early on next time, but soon bounced back when runner-up in veterans' handicap at Exeter 20 days ago, faring best of the pacesetters. Not taken lightly.

Having been pulled up on final 3 starts in 2023/24, returned to form from out of the blue when recording a fourth C&D success at Ffos Las in May. However, has gone the wrong way again since, pulled up on all 4 subsequent outings. Has had a wind op.

Forecasts

Gustavian (3/1), Sam Brown (10/3), Credo (10/3), Good Boy Bobby (7/1), Grandads Cottage (17/2), Cloudy Glen (11/1), Quick Wave (12/1), Amateur (22/1)

13:20 Newbury - 1 March 2025 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

SAM BROWN has proved that he's still a smart performer on his day this season, bumping into a rejuvenated rival when runner-up in the Veterans' Final at Market Rasen, so he could be ready to resume winning ways after his fourth in a Grade 2 here last time. Anthony Honeyball looks to hold a strong hand in the race, with Gustavian next on the list ahead of Credo.
