Runner-up both starts in points and much better effort under Rules when sixth of 12 in a class 2 hurdle at Compiegne (17.9f, heavy, 43/1) 32 days ago. Not taken lightly.

€210,000 4-y-o, Soldier of Fortune gelding. Half-brother to a point winner. Dam unraced sister to temperamental but useful hurdler/chaser (stayed 21f) Jenkins. Successful sole start in Irish points (Apr 16). Wears tongue strap. Interesting newcomer.

Fair but winless in bumpers but successful in a couple of points earlier in the year and showed plenty making his hurdling/yard debut when second here (20f, heavy, 18/1) on return last month, no match for winner but clear of rest. Player.

Third sole start in Irish points. Third at Fairyhouse only start in bumpers. Left Stuart Crawford £60,000/off 20 months, some encouragement when 4¼ lengths fourth of 11 in novice at Uttoxeter on hurdling debut. Off another 14 months since but entitled to progress.

Showed plenty when runner-up on debut in a Chepstow bumper (2m) over a year ago. Failed to build on that in 2 subsequent outings but was unlucky not to make a winning start over hurdles over C&D on return last month (landed very awkwardly at the last). Can make amends.

Well held both bumper starts last season but more like it when third of 9 switched to hurdling at Hereford on return. Well held on heavy at Cheltenham since.

Bumper winner for Brian Ellison last season. Should be up to making an impact in a race like this on hurdles bow if his new trainer has him fully primed after 8 months off.

Forecasts

Steel Ally (5/4), Golden De Coeur (10/3), Tedtwo (7/1), Tour Ovalie (15/2), Fortunate Man (15/2), Another Folly (12/1), Pomerol George (18/1), Tedley (33/1), Inebranlable (150/1), Aworkingman (150/1), Jaunty Belle (400/1)

13:22 Ffos Las - 12 December 2023 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

STEEL ALLY was unlucky not to make a winning start over hurdles at this C&D on return last month, in control when a very awkward landing at the last handed the initiative to the winner, and he's taken to make amends, though market support for expensive Irish-point winner Fortunate Man would look significant. Tour Ovalie and Tedtwo showed plenty in bumpers so are also worth a second look.
