12/1
Hurdles winner who took form to a new level over fences last term, completing quick-fire hat-trick on handicap debut at Warwick (2m) in January. Not disgraced in Gr. 2 next time and he fell early in the Arkle when last seen. This more suitable.

8-y-o who goes particularly well when the mud is flying, adding to his tally when seeing of re-opposing Clan Legend at Kelso (21.6f) in February. Solid second back at that venue in March but conditions may not play to his strengths back down in trip on return.

Dual winner of small-field novice chase events last term and having ended the campaign well below his best, he got back on track without needing to improve to score at Market Rasen (21.4f) in October. Needs to back that up in this more demanding affair.

Won veterans event over 25f here last October. Winless thereafter but did go with zest for a long way prior to succumbing late in Grade 3 handicap here final start. Did too much too soon when runner-up on return here last month but he clearly retains all his enthusiasm at the age of 12.

Useful hurdler/chaser who, in line with yard's good form, returned to something like his best to end losing run back from 7 months off at Ayr (20.5f) 5 weeks ago, well served by the test of speed. This understandably demands a little more.

Likeable sort who won twice at Wetherby (19.4f) last winter prior to finding the demands of the Plate handicap too demanding at Cheltenham in March. Solid return fourth at first-named venue last month but victories over fences have come in single-figure fields.

High-class chaser in his pomp (Grade 1 winner) who capitalised on sliding mark on return in Old Roan Chase under an excellent ride. That form has been very well advertised since and big shout from 2 lb higher if arriving in same form.

Enhanced his fine strike rate over fences with ready success at Stratford (22.5f) in March. Struggled at Haydock a month later and whilst much better than bare result when fifth on return at Fakenham (3m) in October, it's likely he'll face plenty of competition on the front end here.

Consistent hurdler who justified good support on the back of a break/wind op over shorter here 4 weeks ago, jumping on 3 out and ridden out. Still room for improvement in his jumping but may not have reached his limit yet, including at this trip.

Useful hurdler who scored twice as a novice in this sphere during 2019/20 campaign. Very lightly raced since and, afforded a chance by the assessor he returned from 10 months off with a good second at Bangor (20.3f) 24 days ago. No forlorn hope.

Likeable veteran who was very gutsy when taking this race for second consecutive season 12 months ago, by 3 lengths from Riders Onthe Storm. Creditable second on seasonal bow at Ayr recently but he's done his winning on much softer ground than forecast here.

Is progressing well and made a winning return from 6 months off in 7-runner handicap chase at Carlisle (20f) 16 days ago, storming clear from last. Assessor applies more pressure but he's still low-mileage and could well be up to the task.

Gained second handicap chase victory (in refitted cheekpieces) at Naas (20.4f) in January. Never figured next 2 starts but right back to best when runner-up on seasonal return at Wexford (20f) in October. Not underestimated from the foot of the weights on that evidence.

Gunsight Ridge (3/1), Riders Onthe Storm (7/2), Knight In Dubai (6/1), Elvis Mail (9/1), Cooper's Cross (11/1), Brave Seasca (12/1), Clan Legend (14/1), Schiehallion Munro (16/1), Kiltealy Briggs (18/1), Empire Steel (20/1), Handsworth (22/1), Wishing And Hoping (25/1), Kap Auteuil (33/1)

14:40 Aintree - 3 December 2022 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

A high-class chaser in his pomp, RIDERS ONTHE STORM capitalised on his much-reduced mark under an excellent ride to land the Old Roan Chase (strong form) on return. Consistency hasn't always been his strong suit but a 2 lb higher mark certainly doesn't look prohibitive if arriving in the same groove and he could be worth siding with to enhance his already sound C&D record. Improving 7-y-o Cooper's Cross, Brave Seasca and Irish-raider Handsworth head up the dangers.
