Impressive winner of a listed juvenile at Musselburgh (15.5f) in February. However, came up short in graded company on his next 2 starts and no easy task off what looks a tough mark on his handicap debut in this sphere.

Successful at Bangor and Warwick either side of his excellent second in the C&D Grade 1 Juvenile Hurdle last season. Shaped better than his finishing position suggests in the Fred Winter at the Cheltenham Festival when last seen in March (since undergone a wind op) and he remains with potential.

Flat winner for George Scott and landed juvenile events at Stratford and Newcastle on first 2 starts over hurdles last term. Performed with credit when fifth off this mark in the Fred Winter at the Cheltenham Festival, form which gives him strong claims in this contest.

Continued theme of race-by-race progress when accounting for 5 rivals upped to 21.6f in a Newton Abbot novice last month. More on his plate now pitched into a handicap but drop back in trip shouldn't be an issue and it's likely that he has more to offer.

Dual Flat winner who took well to hurdles last season, winning juvenile events at Kempton and Fontwell. Creditable second at Stratford (18.7f) on final start of that campaign and place possibilities on return/handicap debut with a first-time tongue strap enlisted.

Off the mark in a Punchestown maiden hurdle in May but limitations seemingly exposed since, for all that he was far from disgraced in a 2m handicap at Listowel recently. Others look stronger.

Ended last season with ready win at Ascot in March and recorded creditable efforts at Aintree and Newton Abbot off this mark in midsummer. Another good effort when runner-up back from a break at Uttoxeter (2½m) and he's in with an each-way shout.

Fairly useful Flat winner in France who took a big step forward on third hurdles start when going close in a maiden here in February. Duly landed the odds at Fontwell (17.7f) next time and he needs a second look off what looks a fair mark for this handicap debut.

Rattled off a quick-fire 4-timer over hurdles earlier this year and added to his tally at Newton Abbot (16.7f) last month. Shouldn't be judged too hardly on his latest Market Rasen effort but he looks vulnerable in any case.

Forecasts

Bagheera Ginge (7/2), Winterwatch (4/1), Too Friendly (9/2), Impulsive One (9/2), Saint Segal (9/2), Krypton Gold (6/1), Mothill (9/1), Silver Shade (14/1), Sawbuck (22/1), Appreciate (40/1)

16:37 Chepstow - 8 October 2022 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

The vote goes to SAINT SEGAL, who was too keen in the Fred Winter on his final start of what was otherwise a highly promising novice campaign last term. He has undergone a wind operation ahead of this assignment and appeal as the type to make his mark in high-grade handicaps during the months ahead. Mothill is also armed with potential and he is feared most ahead of Silver Shade and Too Friendly. A mention also needs to be made of Bagheera Ginge, who is clearly going the right way.
