Failed to win in 2021 but he did post a really smart effort when second to Trueshan in this race 12 months ago. Well held in Hardwicke Stakes on reappearance and faces another stiff task here, but the step back up in trip will at least be in his favour.

Improved performer this season, following up his Ascot Stakes win in listed event at Sandown (16.2f) 25 days ago by 10 lengths from Rodrigo Diaz, suited by way race developed. This demands more again but he's thriving and shouldn't be underestimated.

Ex-French performer who looked a smart staying prospect for his new stable when hacking up in a valuable 1¾m handicap at Musselburgh on Easter Saturday. Unlucky not to follow up in Sagaro at Ascot but only fifth of 8 in Henry II Stakes at Sandown last time and this is a big ask.

Has flourished with a clearer run at his racing this year, completing the hat-trick in 9-runner Ascot Gold Cup last time by ½ length from Mojo Star, battling well and suited by increase in trip. Obvious contender.

Looked better than ever when a wide-margin winner of a 6-runner Newmarket handicap in May. Even better form when second in Henry II Stakes at Sandown (16.2f) but was well below form in Queen Alexandra at Royal Ascot last time and easily passed over at this level.

4-time winner of this race who showed he's still one of the best stayers around when landing Yorkshire Cup on reappearance in May. Not seen to best effect when 1¼ lengths third to Kyprios in Ascot Gold Cup subsequently and seems sure to give another good account under change of rider (3-3 on him).

Front runner who ran up to his smart best when runner-up to Stradivarius in Yorkshire Cup in May. Respectable fourth in 2m Sandown Group 3 next time but shaped as if amiss when well beaten in Silver Cup back at York last time. Blinkers back on and faces a very stiff task.

Top-class performer who took this in 2021 and completed 5-timer with superb weight-carrying performance in 20-runner Northumberland Plate (Handicap) at Newcastle 31 days ago, grinding his way to the front near the finish after a scrap through the final 1f. Leading contender.

Smart mare who took advantage of the absence of Stradivarius and Trueshan when landing Sagaro Stakes at Ascot in April. Only 6¾ lengths sixth of 9 to Kyprios in Gold Cup at Royal Ascot subsequently, though was treated for heat stress afterwards.

Forecasts

Kyprios (6/4), Trueshan (2/1), Stradivarius (9/2), Coltrane (8/1), Princess Zoe (25/1), Away He Goes (50/1), Enemy (66/1), Thunderous (80/1), Nate The Great (150/1)

15:35 Goodwood - 26 July 2022 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

TRUESHAN put up the sort of handicap performance that's all too rarely attempted let alone accomplished when defying a BHA mark of 120 in the Northumberland Plate at Newcastle 31 days ago, so he looks the one to be with on the back of that stunning display. Kyprios is an interesting new addition to the staying scene following his success in the Ascot Gold Cup and commands the utmost respect, while stalwart Stradivarius can't be written off for all that he's not quite the force of old.
