Much-improved when making a winning handicap debut over C&D (good) 15 days ago. 4 lb rise for that looks fair and while this is a tougher assignment, he has to enter calculations.

Showed ability in 3 starts on the AW at the backend of last year, but improvement will be needed back from an 8-month break if she's to play a leading role on this handicap debut.

Confirmed debut promise when bagging a 7f Kempton maiden in November, but she hasn't made much of an impact in 3 starts this season.

Yarmouth 7f novice winner on debut last summer and not disgraced in a couple of handicaps this time round. Still, return to this trip is of dubious benefit and needs to raise his game a notch.

Stepped up on form in maiden/novice company when third on C&D handicap debut last month. Possibly unsuited by the track/drop to 7f at Chepstow since and he could have a part to play back here.

Has belied double-figure odds to score cosily the last twice, again produced late at Goodwood (7f, good) last month. Well worth another crack at this trip and another bold show anticipated.

Gelded ahead of handicap debut success at Chelmsford (1m), but not in the same form back on turf at Leicester 8 days later and looks vulnerable in this competitive affair.

Bettered what he showed on first 2 starts when fourth in a 10-runner Windsor novice (1m, good to firm) last time. Likely to make his mark in handicaps and not without each-way hope here.

Fifth of 11 in C&D maiden won by subsequent Group 1 scorer Snow Lantern on return in April. Best work at the finish when again fifth here on handicap bow last month and couldn't rule out.

Promise in his 3 qualifying runs and shouldn't be judged too harshly on handicap debut failure at Windsor (1m, soft). Remains open to improvement and certainly one to consider.

Has proved fairly consistent since switched to handicaps, but at the same time he hasn't really progressed and clearly has work to do, having finished behind Marselan and Goodwood Glen the last twice.

Arguably posted her best effort yet when third in a 10-runner Brighton handicap (7f, good) 17 days ago, but work to do in this stronger race from 6 lb out of the handicap.

Forecasts

Goodwood Glen (3/1), Marselan (4/1), Sunset (15/2), Sugauli (17/2), Visala (17/2), French Conquest (11/1), Propagation (11/1), St George's Bay (12/1), Limited Edition (14/1), Romulan Prince (25/1), Bannergirl (28/1), Sharla (40/1)

16:30 Newbury - 16 July 2021 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

ST GEORGE'S BAY was never in the hunt on his recent handicap bow at Windsor, but he's clearly thought capable of a good deal better and can be expected to leave that form well behind back on a faster surface here. Ed Walker's charge gets the nod ahead of the hat-trick seeking Marselan, who remains on a feasible mark and is clear next best ahead of Sunset and recent C&D winner Goodwood Glen.

  2. MARSELAN (IRE)
