Horse silk
33/1
Out of a hurdling winner and showed ability when fourth in a bumper at Sedgefield a couple of months ago.

10/1
No better than modest form in a couple of bumpers before Christmas but yard going well so possible he'll show more this time.

Pulled up in an Irish point in November. Akentrick would appear to be the stable first string unless the betting hints otherwise.

Third on 2 of his 3 starts in bumpers, including here (Okavango Delta ahead in second) last time, but he'll likely need to step up on those efforts if he's to notch a first win here.

By Dubawi out of a useful 7f/1m winner so of some interest on paper but he was picked up for only £3,000 last year. Check betting.

Sedgefield debut second came in a weak affair and he was well held at Kelso next time. Others preferred.

Kayf Tara gelding out of a mare from a good family. 11/4, shaped well when close third of 8 on Sedgefield debut 10 weeks ago. Form of that race looks reasonable. Prominent showing likely.

Placed in 2 bumpers here this winter (turf first occasion), collared only in the dying strides on this surface 25 days ago. Likely to go close at the least if in similar form.

€40,000 Shantou gelding. Half-brother to fairly useful hurdler A Little Chaos. Dam 1m/9f winner on Flat. From a shrewd yard so needs monitoring in the betting.

22/1, ran to a fair level when third of 9 on Musselburgh debut 57 days ago. Those in behind haven't done much for that form since.

Phoenix Reach gelding. Half-brother to yard's fairly useful hurdler/chaser Bollin Ace. Stable 0-28 in bumpers in last 5 seasons so could only consider if backed.

22/1, shaped as if in need of experience when fourth of 9 in bumper at Doncaster (13f, soft) on debut 66 days ago. Up in trip. May do better.

Kutub gelding. Dam (c92/h110) 2m/17f hurdle winner, also 1m-1¼m winner on Flat. Yard does pop up with odd bumper winner, including one here this season.

Shirocco gelding. Brother to a winner on Flat and half-brother to useful hurdler Nordic Combined. Dam 1½m-1¾m winner. Some paper appeal and would enter reckoning if betting vibes strong.

Forecasts

Northern Falcon (4/1), Punxsutawney Phil (9/2), Okavango Delta (5/1), Clear White Light (11/2), Timetotalk (8/1), Jomont (10/1), Akentrick (10/1), Party Business (12/1), Adelphi Sprite (33/1), Cheeky Ches (40/1), Creggan White Hare (50/1), Bollin Phoenix (66/1), Les's Legacy (66/1), Blueberry Wine (100/1)

12:25 Newcastle - 2 February 2021 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

OKAVANGO DELTA went agonisingly close over C&D last time and is taken to go one better at the expense of Sedgefield-third Northern Falcon. Brian Ellison has had a few bumper winners here in recent weeks and his well-bred newcomer Punxsutawney Phil would also enter the reckoning if the betting suggests he's fancied.

  1. OKAVANGO DELTA (IRE)
  2. NORTHERN FALCON
  3. PUNXSUTAWNEY PHIL (IRE)
