Dogonp,t8(ex 7)
Age: 5|  Weight: 12-1| J: H Cobden| T: P F Nicholls| OR:  109
3/1
Has looked a quirky sort, showed more resolution than before in this first-time headgear combination at Southwell (15.8f) last time, took advantage if a drop in weights. Penalised 7lb, 2-3 as a chaser, hard to guarantee mood will be the same here.

Fort De L'Oceant12(ex 7)
Age: 5|  Weight: 11-13| J: Henry Brooke| T: O Greenall & J Guerriero| OR:  107| CD
11/4
Showed improved form to get off the mark over C&D last time, jumped well, travelled smoothly throughout. Won 7L (could have been more), guilty of finishing tamely in the past (not last time), penalty make life more difficult, sound claims.

River Icon20
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-12| J: C O'Farrell| T: I Jardine| OR:  113| BF| C
6/1
Returns to fences having not jumped well on her last two attempts in this sphere (back in 2018). Hard to win with, not been seen over obstacles this year with two recent Flat runs leaving a lot to be desired, has work to do off this mark.
4

Grania O'Malley19
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-6| J: Adam Wedge| T: Evan Williams| OR:  107
12/1
Ended the 2019/20 season under a cloud, fared no better starting a new season with both a chase and hurdles effort well below-par. Looks to have lost her confidence and enthusiasm (jumped ponderously over hurdles last time), best watched.
5
Horse silk
Alderbrook Ladp12
Age: 14|  Weight: 11-1| J: Emma Smith-Chaston(7)| T: Micky Hammond| OR:  102| C| D
16/1
Four-time course winner (all wins over further) but hasn't won for over two years now (14lb below last winning mark). Looks far from able to make use of his continued fall in the weights, ran poorly here last time over 25.5f despite market support.
6
Horse silk
Roxyfet150
Age: 10|  Weight: 11-0| J: Aidan Macdonald(10)| T: Micky Hammond| OR:  101| BF| D
16/1
Sedgefield specialist, nine-time winner there (mixes hurdles and chases), not the most reliable though, has his quirks (usually races well off the pace). No great record fresh, long time since he won off a mark this high, others appeal more.
7
Horse silk
Lough Kent17
Age: 11|  Weight: 10-8| J: Charlotte Jones(7)| T: James Moffatt| OR:  95| CD
11/2
Won back-to-back handicap hurdles here in 2017 both over a similar trip (came from well off pace both times) off much higher marks. Only modest these days, needed the run on return, not seen over fences since C&D run last June (never involved).
8
Horse silk
Sword Of Fate17
Age: 7|  Weight: 10-7| J: D R Fox| T: L Kerr| OR:  94| D
20/1
Fairly useful chaser at best for Tom Lacey, regressed gradually for this yard (0-12 for them), failing to use a plummeting mark. May well have needed the run at Perth last time but hard to give him an excuse just on that score, best left alone.
9
Horse silk
My Renaissancet11
Age: 10|  Weight: 10-4| J: Jonathan England| T: S England| OR:  91| CD
12/1
An archetypal summer jumps horse but yet to fire this year as yet, fast becoming well handicapped (easy to back last few starts). Not given a hard time when last seen (not for the first time), C&D winner over fences, note any positive market vibes.

Forecasts

Fort De L'Ocean (11/4), Dogon (3/1), Lough Kent (11/2), River Icon (6/1), My Renaissance (12/1), Grania O'Malley (12/1), Alderbrook Lad (16/1), Roxyfet (16/1), Sword Of Fate (20/1)

14:00 Cartmel - 7 August 2020 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

The two penalised runners look to be the main protagonists here although Dogon has to exhibit the same attitude/mood that he was in last time at Southwell to follow up that victory having been given a kid gloves ride by Harry Cobden last time. On balance he’s not one to trust to do that and FORT DE L'OCEAN a C&D winner last time is preferred having tanked his way through that race he could have been called the winner a long way out last time finishing off his race strongly on this occasion. Question marks abound over the rest of the field with the likes of Alderbrook Lad, Roxyfet and River Icon all having something to prove. My Renaissance can’t be ruled out though especially if supported.
  1. Fort De L'Ocean
  2. My Renaissance
  3. Dogon
