Yard have done well with similar types (have a plummeting mark to work with) but haven't found the key to him yet in two runs. All headgear (tried in hood last time) now removed, now down to a near career-low mark, dangerous front-runner.

Finally got off the mark reacting well to a change of tactics (made all) at Ripon in a low-grade (0-50) classified event. Typically didn't look particularly straightforward (carried head high), this return to handicaps will provide a stiffer test.

Made little impact as a 2yo in decent novice company; shaped with far more promise on handicap debut here (8.5f). Failed to convert that promise into anything tangible last time at Hamilton (9.2f), worth another chance with stable firing at last.

Modest performer, last win coming on the beach at Laytown (7f), run to a similar level without winning again since. Had the run of the race on recent return finishing third over 1m at Thirsk, travelled well, should come on for the outing.

Blinkers worn for both handicaps starts over this trip are retained although he's run no more than creditably in this sphere. Got very warm pre-race last time and with his mark only eased 1lb he still looks to face a tough task in handicaps.

Dual C&D winner (both those wins when amateur ridden) soring a surprise to land the most recent of them last July off 1lb lower. Inconsistent since then his recent return was no more than adequate over C&D behind The Trendy Man (runs in 5.35).

0-17 offering little in truth in three runs for Stef Keniry last year at up to 1m on turf/AW off higher marks. Now dropped to a basement mark for a new yard with a first-time tongue-tie on off a significant break, hard to make much of case for him.

Course winner (8.5f) under an amateur rider back in 2017, times have been barren since including after wind surgery. Out of sorts when last seen, faring no better in first-time cheekpieces, hopes pinned on another wind surgery working the oracle.

C&D win came back in 2017 since when he's endured a couple of long absences, the latest more than two years. Run too free in all three starts since returning doing too much too soon last time over 9.8f at Ripon, needs to settle.

In good hands but failed to make any improvement in handicaps the last twice over longer trips than he tried in his qualifying starts. Ran very poorly last time out at Yarmouth (10.1f), early days but more needed before support can be offered.

17:00 Beverley - 4 August 2020 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

An ordinary handicap although there are one or two very well handicapped individuals. One of those would be Sands Chorus off a mark of 62 having won off as high as 86 in the past, he may face some pace pressure from the free-going Ivors Involvement but would be hard to ignore if there was market support. Loose Chippings a fairly solid operator at this level is worthy of respect. Bristol Missile should be involved if he runs again after a crediable second at Yarmouth. PHOENIX APPROACH is trusted with the selection in the hope that he can move forward rather than sideways having failed too really build on the progress that he made on his handicap debut.
  1. Phoenix Approach
  2. Bristol Missile
  3. Sands Chorus
