Ran well in three novice contests for previous handler Jamie Osborne, but struggled on handicap bow when ninth of 10 at Kempton (7f) last month. Eased 4lb but is still relatively unexposed.

Yet to really build on promising debut at Kempton last year, and returned to track with poor eighth in 6f Windsor maiden in June. Makes handicap bow in this contest.

Placed a couple of times when previously trained by Mick Channon so has some ability. Inauspicious start for this yard when fifth over 1m at Chepstow last month and now steps back in distance.

Gradually got better with each start when trained in Ireland, and made good start to life in Britain when 2L second at Yarmouth (1m) in June. Up 2lb but this trip should suit far better. Claims.

Solid form came when winner on return at Doncaster (6f in June but not as good in two starts subsequently. More needed based on recent last of eight at Doncaster (6f) last month.

Four-race maiden. Switched to handicap company but arguably regressed when 11L tenth at Redcar (1m) in September. Absent since. Best watched on return.

Turf/stable debut having left William Haggas' yard. Shaped well when not getting the best of runs at Chelmsford (7f) last time and looks an unexposed sort of interest if handling the grass.

Van Dijk41
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-8| J: Cam Hardie| T: A Brittain| OR:  57

Form looks to be largely moderate for this level, but was second at Wolverhampton (7f) two starts ago before tame 7l defeat at Beverley (7f) last time. This needs a lot more.

Still to win from six starts and yet to really fire. Took a backward step with 14L defeat at Ripon (1m) last time and looks to have a tough ask on his hands.

16:15 Haydock - 3 August 2020 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

A few of these come into the race with encouraging profiles but one who looks to be a step ahead of the handicapper is PROCLAIMER. The three-year-old has done nothing wrong in his last two starts, and gets some respite despite shaping really encouragingly over this C&D on his seasonal comeback. The main danger looks to be Bolly Bullet, who remains unexposed over these shores but will be far suited better to this sharp 7f, while the likes of Yukon Mission and Queen's Course have plenty of promise, with the former being a model of consistency off his racing marks.
