Dual winner over hurdles including here earlier this month over extended 2m2f. Makes chaisng bow for top yard and is sure to have been well schooled. No easy task though with higher rated hurdlers in the field.

Third in Grade 2 Elite Hurdle last November and fair eighth in County Hurdle at Cheltenham Festival in March. Shaped well and jumped soundly on chase bow at Stratford a few weeks ago when close third and looks sure to give a good account of himself.

Rattled off hurdles five-timer summer 2018 but absent 14 months prior to chase debut on ground softer than ideal at Stratford recently where didn't jump fluently and was well beaten. Will strip fitter but has ground to make up on Beat The Judge.

Won two handicap hurdles for Chris Down last autumn at 2m3f-2m4f but pulled up only start for current handler in March where reportedly unsuited by soft ground. Makes chase debut here but will do well to figure against higher rated rivals.

Won two 2m5f handicap hurdles in spring of last year. Absent eight months prior to recent close third in Bangor h'cap hurdle last week and moves straight to chasing. Drop back in trip not certain to suit but will be fit enough now.

5-12 over hurdles but yet to strike in five starts over fences despite a few solid efforts. Shaped well at Southwell on first start following break, holding every chance until fading from last and is of interest with first-time tongue-tie applied.

Diamond Gaitt16
Age: 7|  Weight: 10-5| J: David Bass| T: K Bailey & M Nicholls| OR:  125| D
8/1
Fair hurdler who finished creditable fourth on chasing bow at Stratford (Beat The Judge third) earlier this month. Jumped well in the main and appeared to blow up in closing stages. Chance with mares allowance helping her cause.

Forecasts

Beat The Judge (11/5), Ashutor (7/2), Tidal Watch (9/2), Leapaway (5/1), Diamond Gait (8/1), Neverbeen To Paris (14/1), Midnight Midge (18/1)

19:05 Newton Abbot - 24 July 2020 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

This looks a decent event. BEAT THE JUDGE was just about the best of these over timber and did enough when third on chase debut at Stratford recently to suggest he will pay his way over larger obstacles. He is narrowly preferred to Tidal Watch, a specialist two-miler who ran a solid race last time and may be improved by the addition of the tongue-tie. It's hard to rule any of the seven runners out of contention, but of the rest the mare Diamond Gait showed enough on her first start over fences to suggest she'll be competitive, while if they handle the drop back in trip Ashutor and Neverbeen To Paris also enter the equation.
  1. Beat The Judge
  2. Tidal Watch
  3. Diamond Gait
