Placed 3-8 chases but yet to score. Close up when jinked and unseated rider at Southwell last week and makes a quick return. Fair chance again if he doesn't repeat the feat.

Dual handicap chase winner last season for Natalie Lloyd-Beavis and makes debut for new handler. 3lb higher than Uttoxeter win last September and tends to need run or two to blow the cobwebs away.

Failed to score in five starts for Paul Nicholls early in his career but has won a couple between the flags. Fourth in Stratford hunter chase in May 2019 and not raced under Rules since. Makes debut for new handler.

Won four point-to-points last spring for Sally Randel and had placed form over hurdles earlier in career. First start back with former handler and has a squeak if fully wound up for yard in decent form. Worth a market check.

Landed novice h'cap chase on fencing bow at Wincanton last October and ran creditably both subsequent outings. Eased 2lb for this seasonal return and looks a player being unexposed and capable of going well after a break.

Worcester 2m4f novice h'cap chase winner last September getting up close home after surviving bad blunder early on. Faded when second over 3m time after. Back to optimum trip here and wears first-time hood on first start for 280 days.

Fairly one paced gelding who starts back following seven-month absence off lowest ever handicap mark. Probably better over further and others are preferred.

Has cut little ice in five previous attempts over fences and is just 1-15 over hurdles. Ran best race when third at Bangor last June but found little under pressure and has a tough task despite handicapper relenting.

Forecasts

Fenlons Court (3/1), Bubble O'Clock (4/1), Cheltenam De Vaige (5/1), Duc Kauto (11/2), Oxwich Bay (7/1), Gentleman Moore (9/1), Trumps Benefit (12/1), Ballyknock Cloud (12/1), Gold Mountain (16/1)

17:20 Newton Abbot - 7 July 2020 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

DUC KAUTO is the choice after doing well in all three chases last season and he remains open to further improvement. The absence is not a concern as he won first time out last term. Oxwich Bay was running well enough at Southwell last week until unseating rider and is feared with that outing under his belt, and Cheltenam De Vaige may not be far away if ready for this first run back with his former handler. Trumps Benefit may prove best of the remainder.
  1. Duc Kauto
  2. Oxwich Bay
  3. Cheltenam De Vaige
