Handicap newcomer, too green to do herself justice on 2yo turf debut but ran a couple of respectable races in AW novice events (6f/7f). Had the run of things on both her AW starts (little free when last seen); should progress, mark looks about right.

Two placed 6f efforts to start her career (failed to justify favouritism on the second of them), made amends off a break when narrowly winning 6f Kempton fillies maiden. Showed a good attitude on that occasion, handicap debut, a likely sort.

Took a marked step forward on his two previous performances on turf when successful at Wolverhampton (6f, slow) after a seven-month break. Beat a pair of subsequent winners (race possibly favoured him); handicap debut off a fair opening mark.

Dual 2yo winner following up her Goodwood win (6f, good) in a minor event (made all) with a gritty victory on her nursery debut (6f, Polytrack). Stayed on well to take that contest (not the strongest); up 5lb for her hat-trick bid, more needed.

Won despite not handling the track at Brighton (6f, good/soft) in August (second won next time). Failed to impress in two subsequent nurseries including over 7f (on debut in that sphere), looks exposed off this mark versus seven handicap debutantes.

Landed a valuable nursery at Nottingham (6f, soft) to get off the mark at the ninth attempt (race lacked progressive types for grade/money), always up with pace. Respectable efforts for the most part since then on AW, back on turf, looks vulnerable.

Not run on turf since his 2yo debut, didn't need to improve to take a 5f Fibresand maiden when last seen (looked as though he would be suited by 6f). Step back up in trip should suit; has to prove himself on turf, stable in form, mark looks fair.

Knocked at the winning door on several occasions without finding the key to open it including on nursery debut when last seen at York (5½f, soft). Hood retained, best form on good going, has shown some quirks, looks susceptible to handicap newcomer.

Shaped with real promise on his debut at Kempton (6f, slow) as a 3yo (didn't run at two) showing up well against an odds-on favourite (won again next time). Went backwards from debut up to 7f at Wolverhampton, worth another chance, handicap debut.

Stable in cracking form; needed the stewards help when awarded a Kempton (7f, slow) minor event; showed promise on debut five months earlier (race threw up winners). Limited evidence to base his mark on, plenty of potential for his handicap debut.

Gelded for his handicap debut; appears to be the more-fancied of the stable duo, placed on all his three starts as a 2yo. Looks the type for handicaps over this trip as a 3yo if he can overcome a lengthy absence, mark looks reasonable.

Age: 3|  Weight: 8-13| J: K T O'Neill| T: R Harris| OR:  69| BF
16/1
Fair maiden but never really put it together even when switched to AW (should be suited by synthetics on pedigree). Gambled on when last seen (6f, Fibresand) proved to be a disappointing favourite, down in the weights, at risk to handicap recruits.

Forecasts

Aweemaweh (5/2), Broughtons Gold (4/1), Tambourine Girl (5/1), Rodin (13/2), Al Dawodiya (8/1), We're Reunited (16/1), Punchbowl Flyer (18/1), Cruising (20/1), Spring Bloom (25/1), Epsom Faithfull (28/1), Danny Ocean (33/1), Lexington Storm (40/1)

14:40 Newbury - 11 June 2020 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

Not an easy puzzle to solve with seven of these 3yo’s making their handicap debuts with a couple having had just two starts. The two last time out winners this year Aweemaweh and Rodin both face very different tests this time around and although both are respected there are others that may have more scope. Tambourine Girl would be one of those her tough attitude should stand her in good stead and the Hannon duo (both making their handicap debut) Al Dawodiya and Lexington Storm (just two starts) have to be respected. It would come as no surprise to see support for Spring Bloom but the overall vote goes to BROUGHTONS GOLD who is very unexposed and trainer Tom Clover can’t put a foot wrong.
  1. Broughtons Gold
  2. Tambourine Girl
  3. Spring Bloom
