Made all when winning at Kelso last February and only lightly raced since; has missed several other engagements en route to this; stayed this sort of trip during his time in France and this is a big drop in class for his chasing debut; respected.

Does have experience of these fences (notably when he finished fourth behind high-class stablemate Defi Du Seuil here in December 2018); but was off for a long time after that run and didn't impress in two starts at the back-end of last year.

Handled heavy ground and did well for this yard on several occasions in France; pulled up in a Grade 3 over hurdles when last seen but had previously made the frame in a Listed race at Auteuil last September. Worth a betting check on chase debut.

Has ability and no issues with the trip. However, he failed to complete after making mistakes on his first try over fences at Huntingdon last month and needs to post a much more accomplished display to get competitive here. (Cheekpieces now added.)

Forecasts

Westend Story (11/8), Fox Pro (11/4), Breaking Waves (4/1), Dream Du Grand Val (4/1), Golden Whisky (7/1)

13:30 Exeter - 21 January 2020 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

GOLDEN WHISKY justified strong support when winning over fences at Ffos Las (similar ground conditions) last November and was then thrown in at the deep end in a Class 2 chase at Ascot last month. He wasn't knocked about that day when his chance had dissipated and this looks a good level to get him back on the right path. Chasing debutante Dream Du Grand Val runs for a powerful yard and, given he drops in class, he will be hard to beat if he runs to his rating over hurdles, while Westend Story already knows his way around here and can also prove to be a thorn in the side of the selection.
  1. Golden Whisky
  2. Dream Du Grand Val
  3. Westend Story
