Probably has a race of this nature in him, not disgraced when second to a runaway winner at Sandown two starts back but didn't improve on that at Haydock last time; drop back to 2m probably a plus, and this is easier, so has chances.

Pops up from time to time and third in a race at Kempton last time in a race he goes well in every year shows his turn may not be far away; might not want the ground desperate though, so any more rain a negative.

On a really good mark on the best of his form but never the strongest of finishers on soft'heavy ground and may be one to watch today. Will be winning again once the ground quickens up in the spring, though.

Got his head in front for Denis Hogan at Tramore last August, but first start for new yard at Ascot last month showed no immediate promise. Still looks a bit high in the handicap as well, and best watched today.

Glockenspiel33
Age: 5|  Weight: 11-9| J: J J Burke| T: T R George| OR:  117

Into handicaps after just the two starts over hurdles, so plenty of room for improvement, but no chance against easy winner (gone in again since) at Bangor last time. Conditions fine though, and won't mind any more rain, so hard to discount.

Too many letters in his form for comfort, and pulled up on debut for the yard at Chepstow last month. On that, not hard to look elsewhere for the winner.

Not improving, and well beaten again when made favourite at Warwick last time out. Often finishes weakly and this ground far from ideal either. Others readily preferred.

Mon Palois59
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-5| J: David Bass| T: K Bailey & M Nicholls| OR:  113| D

Got to go back to 2017 to find the last time he got his head in front, and going nowhere quickly at present either. Takes a drop in grade but his case is not persuasive, and others make more appeal.
9

Josie Abbing18
Age: 6|  Weight: 10-10| J: Adam Wedge| T: Christian Williams| OR:  104
16/1
Winner on good ground at Newton Abbot (for another yard) last summer but not really gone on from that, although there was some promise on second start for this yard here last time out; market may give best guide as to chance.

Kenny George15
Age: 5|  Weight: 10-6| J: M Goldstein| T: Miss S West| OR:  100
7/1
Came good (in lesser grade) at Fontwell back in November but has found life harder from his revised mark after that; not disgraced at Warwick last time but this is tougher, and on balance, he has a bit to do.

Forecasts

Eddiemaurice (3/1), Mon Palois (5/1), Glockenspiel (5/1), Nebuchadnezzar (11/2), Kenny George (7/1), Royal Ruby (7/1), Ferrobin (12/1), Josie Abbing (16/1), The Granson (50/1), Jacke Is Back (66/1)

14:50 Newbury - 15 January 2020 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

Plenty of these have something to prove on the ground, and a few others appear out of form, and only a handful make any appeal. Money for Josie Abbing would make her quite interesting, as she did show a bit more for Christian Williams last time out, but GLOCKENSPIEL has scope for improvement, won't mind the ground and looks reasonably treated on his handicap debut. Eddiemaurice might not want really deep ground but he;s in good form and should run his race. Top weight Nebuchednezzar faces an easier task than a few he has done as of late and might get involved for the places.
  1. Glockenspiel
  2. Eddiemaurice
  3. Nebuchadnezzar
