Ended last season with a chase win at Taunton (3m4½f, soft), when 2lb lower. Reverts to hurdles for the first time since spring 2017. Stable's runners in reasonably good form, and can't rule him out. Has an entry in the Becher Chase.
All four wins have been on good ground, the latest (3m) being in a Southwell novices' chase when last seen in July. Up 1lb for this return to hurdles, and is going to need some improvement to win again judged on recent efforts in this discipline.
2-9 career record, although it is now two years since his more recent win in a Kelso novices' hurdle (2m6½f, good). Acts on soft, but was well held at Wetherby over fences last time, and looks to have a tough task from this mark.
Triple hurdles winner over 2m3½f-2m5½f, all when there has been some cut in the ground. 4lb higher than when scoring at Catterick in January. Well held in a better race last time, but if back on song at this level, he could finish in the money.
Well handicapped on his form of 2017, when he won a Haydock Class 2 from a 5lb higher mark. Sent off at 3-1 on his seasonal reappearance at Fontwell last month, but disappointed when last of four. Has a fair bit to prove now.
Ludlow maiden hurdle winner (2m5f, good) in January. Acts on soft. Respectable effort over the same trip on his return at Cheltenham last month. Drops 1lb and if has a claimer up, so reasons to believe he could have a big say up in trip.
All three wins have been on good ground. Finished just ahead of Rapper at Cheltenham last month, but he went into that race fit after scoring at Exeter the time before. Drops 2lb, but has a bit to prove again, and stable fairly quiet.
Dual hurdles winner, including on soft at Bangor (2m3½f). Stays 3m. Has has jumping issues in two of her last three starts, and pulled up latest, so she arrives with a bit to prove, but would be a danger from this mark if bouncing back.
Broke her duck at the ninth attempt at Fakenham (2m7½f, good) last month, winning easily by 5L. That was a marked improvement on previous efforts. Up 9lb for that, and in a better race here. Can't rule out a follow up, but soft ground a concern.
Forecasts
Rapper (9/4), Back On The Lash (3/1), Regarding Ruth (11/2), Teescomponents Lad (6/1), Ready And Able (8/1), Like The Sound (20/1), Copper Gone West (22/1), Senor Lombardy (22/1), Dadsintrouble (25/1)
Regarding Ruth won well last time. If she can act on soft then you couldn't rule out a repeat, but she has that to prove and is now 9lb higher. The suggestion, therefore, is RAPPER, who should have blown off the cobwebs on his reappearance and is taken to win his first handicap here today. Like The Sound is not ruled out, while Copper Gone West and Teescomponents Lad could pick up some money if bouncing back.
