Bolted up in a valuable contest at Kentucky Downs in September but not in the same form at Belmont last time out; vulnerable in this much deeper contest.

Improving since he's been stepped up from a mile this year and posted a solid effort here (1m2f) in Grade 2 company last time out. In the form of his life but will need to raise the level of his performance again.

Has been doing his winning at a much lower level to this and only third when favourite for a 1m2f Grade 2 here last time out; others preferred.

Listed winner at Leopardstown last time out on heavy ground but hard to imagine he's up to this level and may be in here to ensure a strong gallop for his stablemate.

Group 2 winner as a juvenile and produced an impressive performance to win the Epsom Derby earlier this year. Has held his own at the top level subsequently and has been laid out for this race; hard to oppose.

Grade 2 winner at Saratoga but behind some of these in Grade 1 company subsequently and likely to find this plenty tougher.

Runner-up in a Canadian Grade 2 at Woodbine last time out but that form is well below the required standard here; has plenty to find.

Inconsistent performer and tends to struggle when tried at this sort of level. Better at 1m2f and others preferred.

Arrives here on a remarkable run bidding for a seventh straight win and the step up to this trip for the first time has the potential to yield further improvement. Impressive in the Arlington Million last time out and won with a bit in hand.

Old Persian49

Very impressive winning two big races in Meydan this spring and recovered from a couple of below par efforts when landing a Grade 1 at Woodbine last time. This is plenty tougher but capable at the top level if he handles this tight track.

Arklow28
Age: 5|  Weight: 9-0| J: Javier Castellano| T: B Cox| OR:  123| D

Followed a promising effort at Keeneland with a Grade 1 success at Belmont last time out and that rates as a career best performance. However, up against European raiders this is tougher, and he will need to eke out more to have a say.

Age: 5|  Weight: 9-0| J: John Velazquez| T: William Mott| OR:  119| D

Got the better of Arklow in a Belmont Grade 1 prior to that rival reversing form last time out. Has a bit to find if he is to mix it with some of these and beaten a long way in this race last year.

Forecasts

Bricks And Mortar (11/8), Anthony Van Dyck (3/1), Old Persian (10/3), Arklow (14/1), Mount Everest (18/1), Zulu Alpha (22/1), Alounak (28/1), Channel Maker (28/1), United (50/1), Channel Cat (50/1), Acclimate (66/1), Bandua (66/1)

23:40 Santa Anita - 2 November 2019 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

ANTHONY VAN DYCK rates as a confident selection having won the Derby in good style earlier in the campaign and this race has clearly been the long term plan for the son of Galileo. Bricks And Mortar can’t be ruled out given the run he’s on and he got the better of the selection’s stablemate last time out. Old Persian is another to consider provided he can find his Meydan form.
  1. Anthony Van Dyck
  2. Bricks And Mortar
  3. Old Persian
