C&D winner earlier in the year who managed to follow up soon after with another Tapeta win at Wolverhampton. Winless since then he's now slipped back below his last winning mark although he failed to build on a good run over C&D last time.

Lightly-raced sort who had one 2yo run for Simon Crisford before switching to his current yard for his 3yo career. Showed improved form to get off the mark over C&D novice last month; never threatened on handicap debut last time off a stiff mark.

Just the one win to his name as a 2yo when with Brian Meehan but hasn't really shown much for this yard failing to take advantage of a plummeting mark. Fared better than of late over C&D last time but doesn't look one to go overboard about.

Fair performer who has recorded three wins this year progressing from a couple of selling victories to take a 0-70 handicap last month at Redcar (5f, good). Having just his second AW run last time (race didn't work out for him); chance off same mark.

Yet to win on the AW, this will be his 11th try although he has run well on synthetics a couple of times. Now operating off a mark well below his last winning one his form is rather in-and-out but he would have a chance on a real going day.

Fair handicapper on her day; has fallen in the weights of late though having moved yards this year and has yet to fire for her present connections. May well have needed her race at Southwell last time; not well drawn here, needs others to falter.

Fairyhouse winner over 6f on his debut last year as a 2yo for Ger Lyons but failed to make much of an impression after that in races up to 7f. Recent acquisition for this yard; would need to improve on his recent stable/AW debut to make an impact.

All the pieces of the jigsaw fell into place last time over C&D as he went one better than his previous race winning narrowly after being seen to maximum effect. Suited by a soundly run race; should be able to cope with a 3lb rise; leading prospect.

Took advantage of a sliding mark having attracted support to open his account for the season over 5f at Ffos Las. Struggled when next seen returned to the AW (Tapeta) up in grade; has won off this mark so can't be totally written off.

Well suited by the return to sprinting when winning over C&D late last month having been well supported under a capable 10lb claimer. Wasn't in the same form over 6f last time when a busy spell might have caught up with him; appeals back at 5f.

Form can be rather hit-and-miss although he was more of the former element last time when taking second at Musselburgh (worn down in the final strides). Hard to know if he'll produce the same level of performance now; still on a decent mark.

Three-time winner last year; last two wins coming on the AW (both Tapeta), with one over C&D off today's mark. Found it tougher going this year (0-9) but has run some sound enough races; difficult type to win with, should play a part in the finish.

Dual 5f winner at Beverley last year but hasn't really found his mojo this year his best run coming over C&D in June off a 3lb higher mark. Not really fired since that run and was far too free on a rare try over 6f here last time; others appeal more.

Produced his best effort of the season at Doncaster over 5f in a race that he had won/run well in before of a much-reduced mark. Subsequent efforts have been a long way short of that level, now tried in a new headgear combination; case hard to make.

Swiss Connection (4/1), Tathmeen (11/2), Buniann (6/1), Be Proud (13/2), Hard Solution (7/1), Mr Greenlight (9/1), Almurr (12/1), Leo Minor (16/1), Burtonwood (18/1), Arnold (20/1), Heavenly Rainbow (33/1), Brandy Station (50/1), Point Of Woods (66/1), Granny Roz (80/1)

17:20 Newcastle - 22 October 2019 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

The 3yo’s in the field look as a group to hold more handicapping scope with C&D winner SWISS CONNECTION looking the one who could register further progress despite only winning narrowly over C&D last time. The form of that race has already been franked by the subsequent win of the third and he should be able to cope with his small weight rise. Be Proud took advantage of reasonable mark and return to sprinting to record a C&D win last month and with a short break to have freshened him up after his latest start he looks a danger. Of the older group Brandy Station can’t be easily written off but it would have to be Mr Greenlight and Burtonwood who would be considered the biggest dangers.
  1. Swiss Connection
  2. Be Proud
  3. Burtonwood
