Any further rain won't worry this mud lover who sluiced home by 8L at Chester in May for his second Group 3 win. Highly-tried after he ran his best race since that early season win last time out; another bold bid is likely in the conditions.

Quirky sort but he's hard to fault on most occasions having already four times this year (has two C&D wins to his name). Back on the winning trail last time in Listed class at Chester; the worry this time being how he will handle these conditions.

Dual winner at this level who is still lightly-raced for his age; made a winning 4yo comeback when making all at Newmarket in June (1m4f). Suffered two heavy defeats since so comes here with questions to answer including the testing ground.

Racing upwards through the ranks in handicaps (now rated 107, opening mark, 73) having gone 1121 in that sphere. Posted a very smart effort on the AW over 1m3f last time; trip holds no fear although this will be the softest ground he's encountered.

Suited by the marked increase in trip last time when taking a Listed event at Windsor over a similar trip (struggled at the same level over shorter). Still not the finished article he'll appreciate another test; won on good-to-soft (debut as 2yo).

Taken abroad to land a French Listed contest over 1m4f in August not really having to improve on his previous form. Proved consistent at Listed/Group 3 level in GB without winning; has won on soft but likely to find this just too tough.

Looked relatively exposed before landing a Chester Listed contest over 1m6f in August (weak contest for the grade). However her third in the Group 3 Park Hill Stakes suggests she could be on the up; deserves her chance with conditions in her favour.

Forecasts

Morando (2/1), Faylaq (4/1), Wells Farhh Go (4/1), Sextant (7/1), Raakib Alhawa (8/1), Vivid Diamond (9/1), Surrey Thunder (20/1)

14:35 Ascot - 5 October 2019 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

Twelve of the last 13 winners have been aged three or four but it’s the only one outside of that age group in Ormonde Stakes winner MORANDO who fits the bill for this Group 3 with no fears about the ground for him after he ran a creditable race at Newbury last time in the Geoffrey Freer Stakes. Sextant was back in fourth on that day and although he has bounced back with a Chester win since the ground does leave a question mark. Faylaq has improved as a rate of knots and serves a crack at this sphere as does Vivid Diamond although he may well be the slightly under the radar Raakib Alhawa than provides the main danger from the Classic generation; he still has scope to progress.
  1. Morando
  2. Raakib Alhawa
  3. Faylaq
