Duke Of Alba7
Age: 4|  Weight: 10-2| J: B A Curtis| T: J Mackie| OR:  61
9/4
Comes to the backend of the season a fresh horse having had a long mid-season break returning with a sound effort in deep conditions at Haydock last time (1m4f). Deserves to win a race, he has run reasonable races here twice before; shortlisted.

Dual course winner (once at this trip) earlier in the year in slightly better grade but lost his unbeaten record here last time out in tame fashion. That performance fails to project any real enthusiasm for his chance now; needs others to falter.

Would be a deserving winner as his form figures here read 222 and he finally got off the mark at another unique venue last time when winning at Laytown over 7f. Stays this trip well though and every chance off this mark.

Not short of experience on Fibresand despite only winning once here over this trip (his only Flat victory; 1-25). Returns from a long break having looked out of sorts when last seen but is 7lb above that last winning mark; others better weighted.

Last seen over hurdles (badly needed the experience) after he had been disappointing in his previous two Flat starts. Had looked full of promise on his comeback run (had been off 31 months) on stable debut; hard to know what to expect now.

11/2
Dual course winner who has some consistent/solid form on Fibresand (3711252); winning form has come at up to 1m. Ran her best race for a while over this C&D when second to a big improver in August; below-par last time, could well bounce back.

Does have a couple of second places on Fibresand to his name but was disappointing when last seen for Brian Ellison. Looked on the regressive rather than progressive path; now makes his stable debut (sold for £3,000); makes very limited appeal.

Not long with this yard and gets her first taste of the Fibresand having been below-par on her first two outings for the yard. Up in trip off a career-low mark, her dam won on the AW; not unreasonable to assume she will go well given her connections.

Made an unspectacular handicap debut over C&D; has shown very little that would surpass that level of form since. Gelded after a break and back on Polytrack last time he finished well held, not much more expected here even in first-time cheekpieces.

Para Queen54
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-0| J: Jane Elliott(3)| T: H Main| OR:  51
15/2
Caused a shock on handicap debut at Windsor over a similar trip on handicap debut when winning at 25-1 (left previous efforts well behind). Assisted by the way the race panned out she now has to prove herself on this surface off a higher mark.

With a career record that reads 0-42 few will be rushing in to back this one even with a 233 record on Fibresand, those runs all coming over shorter. Very uneven level of form of late, hard to see him breaking his maiden even at this level.

Two runs on Fibresand so far (separated by a six-year gap); despite finishing fourth last time it doesn't appear a surface that's he in love with. Dealing with a long losing run and sure to find several better rivals even at this low level.

Failed to improve since stepping into handicap company with her mark now down to an all time low. Failed to impress when a 50-1 chance here over 1m last time; how steps up significantly in trip; hard to build a persuasive case.

Age: 3|  Weight: 8-8| J: S P Davis(3)| T: J L Eyre| OR:  45
25/1
Lightly-raced maiden (0-5) who makes his Fibresand debut having shown very little promise in two staying handicaps so far. Hopes now pinned on a new surface and the addition of a tongue-tie/cheekpieces for the first-time.

Forecasts

Duke Of Alba (9/4), Loose Chippings (9/2), Dolly Dupree (11/2), Para Queen (15/2), Cold Harbour (8/1), Foxrush Take Time (16/1), Going Native (20/1), Mongolia (22/1), Amber Rock (25/1), Another Lincolnday (25/1), Tyrsal (33/1), Zahraani (50/1), Dream Model (66/1), Thecornishbarron (66/1)

19:30 Southwell - 4 October 2019 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

The fact that DUKE OF ALBA had enough left in the tank to finish second last week at Haydock in atrocious conditions after running freely in the early stages points the way to his chance here especially as he takes a slight ease in grade. Having broken his duck on one beach at Laytown Loose Chippings return to another dandy surface where he’s run well before and he looks a danger along with Dolly Dupree is she bounces back to her best. Both Mongolia and Para Queen have yet to prove themselves on the surface but are capable of making an impression if they do. Most of the others have plenty to do although Another Lincolnday is worth a glance in the market.
  1. Duke Of Alba
  2. Loose Chippings
  3. Dolly Dupree
