Generally kept decent company lately but the drop to this grade wasn't enough to get him back on track last time out. Yard struggling for winners just now and this fellow might be best watched on his AW bow under top weight.

Not many miles on the clock and still has scope to improve; looks an interesting one for a winter campaign on the AW whatever happens. Two runs last month will have sharpened him up and he doesn't have much to find. Shortlisted.

Seems to like racing in the winter and paid his way with a couple of wins for his old yard back in January. Looked to be in need of the run on his debut for his new trainer here last month and was never on terms after a slow start. Needs more.

Held-off all comers at Haydock on his penultimate start and possible he was a bit ring rusty when out-gunned when fourth of seven in a Class 3 at Chester in September (on his return from a 72-day break); the drop in grade will suit. One to monitor.

Tries blinkers for the first time after a fruitless couple of years. Admittedly, he's only been lightly raced since he won from a mark of 82 at Kempton in 2017 but the handicapper's reluctance to drop him leaves him vulnerable again.

Previous C&D winner who has a better record on the AW than on turf; had, more or less, one run per month to keep him ticking over in 2019 but he's struggled lately and might just need some assistance from the assessor. Wide draw a hindrance.

Never won on the AW (0-5) nor has he won beyond sprint distances before now, so there are chinks in the armour. Allied to that, he's been off since January and his record when fresh is poor; others make more appeal on this occasion.

In good form lately and his record on the AW is better than the face value of one win from 12 previous starts on synthetics. He's been placed four times and usually gives as good as he gets. Has won from higher marks on turf, so still more to offer.

Sole previous win came on the Tapeta at Newcastle when with John Gosden last year but he struggled from stiff marks subsequently. Starting to get some respite in the ratings but still looks high on recent achievements. (Debut run at Wolverhampton.)

C&D winner in July but held off the revised mark since; has been nudged down 1lb but possible he's still too close to his limit just now. Seems to like it here but also needs to bounce back from two moderate efforts. The ease in grade can help.

Beat Assimilation by ½L at Chelmsford in March but failed to justify favoritism next time out; and was then subsequently put in his place in a Class 2 handicap at Sandown in April. Not seen since but the market can guide for any expected progress.

Notched a four-timer here in the summer and has place claims at this level on pick of those runs; held in this grade twice since but not disgraced from a mark close to his best. Respected back on the AW but has no secrets from the handicapper.

Forecasts

Mickey (4/1), Assimilation (5/1), Reloaded (6/1), Twin Appeal (7/1), Lestrade (7/1), Blame Culture (15/2), Street Poet (9/1), Tadleel (12/1), Abel Handy (12/1), Daafr (25/1), Barrington (33/1), Made Of Honour (33/1)

18:45 Wolverhampton - 3 October 2019 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

A typically tough one to call as a few of these are no doubt being primed for a winter AW campaign. The likes of Reloaded and Mickey are interesting for similar races of this nature and are ones for the notebook at least, while Lestrade is a lightly raced three-year-old who still has scope to improve, so merits respect accordingly. However, a chance is taken on TWIN APPEAL making the most of a handy mark and he's taken to extend his run of good form now he's switched back to an AW track. It's also worth remembering that he's already won three times under Gemma Tutty and her 3lb claims can only help on these terms.
  1. Twin Appeal
  2. Reloaded
  3. Lestrade
