Horse silk
Ascension23
Age: 2|  Weight: 9-8| J: J Mitchell| T: R Varian| D
2/7
135,000gns yearling; major improvement when dropped back to 6f for his second start, beating the Richard Hannon-trained Cheat by 3½L (Salisbury, good to soft); rates as the clear form pick, so should take the beating despite a 6lb penalty.

(14)
Horse silk
17/2
€110,000 yearling; eighth foal from a 6f winning dam (Evening Time); half-brother to seven winners including Penny Pepper (6f-7f, Group 3); a newcomer of note in the King Power Racing Co silks.

18/1
160,000gns yearling; half-brother to the 6f-7f winner Society Power; low-key on the track so far, taking only a small step forward at Newmarket (6f, good to firm) last month; may need more time.
4
(6)
Horse silk
80/1
€17,000 yearling; slowly away and soon struggling at odds of 100-1 on Haydock (6f, good to firm) debut last month.

Age: 2|  Weight: 9-2| J: J Garritty| T: B Ellison
40/1
€17,000 yearling; third foal from an unraced dam who was a half-sister to the 1m2f Listed winner Mountain; will probably need this initial racecourse experience.

Ninth foal; home-bred by Lethal Force out of a sister to the Coventry Stakes winner Cd Europe; half-brother to three winners, including Magistral (1m).

Gravity Force
Age: 2|  Weight: 9-2| J: C Lee| T: K R Burke
12/1
45,000gns foal; from a moderate dam who was a half-sister to a couple of winners, most notably Disclosure (6f-1m½f); was twice declared to make his debut last month, at Haydock (8th) and Carlisle (21st).

Jems Bond16
Age: 2|  Weight: 9-2| J: Nathan Evans| T: A D Brown
150/1
Eighth foal; half-brother to three winners, including the smart sprinter Waffle (5f); started at odds of 100-1 on debut at Carlisle (6f, good to soft), dwelling and finishing last of 11 to Amaysmont.

Max L9
Age: 2|  Weight: 9-2| J: P Hanagan| T: A C Whillans
66/1
Fifth foal; home-bred half-brother to Ralphy Boy (5f-1m) and Vicky Valentine (1m2f-1m4f); slowly into stride and always in rear on debut at Catterick (5f, good) last week; an unlikely candidate.
10
(3)
Horse silk
50/1
Tagula gelding from a moderate maiden (6f-7f); first foal; £2,500 yearling; broadly unappealing stablemate of Noble Dawn.
11
(9)
Horse silk
10/1
€50,000 foal, £80,000 yearling; third foal; half-brother to two winners, most notably Migration (1m-1m2f); showed pace until weakening from the two furlong pole on debut at Ayr (6f, good to soft) in July; that was a fair contest; can do better.
12
(8)
Horse silk
Apples Acre95
Age: 2|  Weight: 8-11| J: A Mullen| T: B Haslam
33/1
40,000gns yearling; 50-1 and cut no ice on debut at Windsor (6f, good to firm) in June; has since left the care of Paul George; debut for Ben Haslam.
13
(2)
Horse silk
25/1
42,000gns yearling; third foal from a French Listed placed dam (7f-1m); half-sister to the winning dual purpose horse Nylon Speed (1m3f-2m); on paper is certainly preferable to stablemate Ochre Riu.
14
(13)
Horse silk
150/1
Half-sister to the 5f AW winner Dream Revival; 66-1, always outpaced in rear and seemingly knew little of the job in hand when down the field on debut at Carlisle (6f, good to soft) just over a fortnight ago.

15:50 Newcastle - 6 September 2019 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

ASCENSION took a significant step forward when dropped to this trip at Salisbury, and can defy a 6lb penalty in a race where viable alternatives are very few and far between. Art Power (Tim Easterby) and Gravity Force (Karl Burke) are mildly interesting newcomers, although in both cases it should be noted that this race is effectively plan 'b' or 'c', with the former switching here from Wednesday's abandoned Hamilton fixture. The only other runner worth a positive mention in the context of this race is the John Dance-owned Panist who contested an above average race (showed speed) on debut at Ayr in July.
