Raced to a similar level in winning his first two over 6f here and at Lingfield. Raced freely in a slowly run but tough handicap debut at Newbury. Likely to fare better back on this surface and up a furlong but he'll still need more off this mark.
Now on a losing run of 18 starts and remains an infrequent winner. Has gone close on this surface previously but he'll need to lift plenty on his current form.
Now 3lb lower than Lingfield AW win back in February. Well beaten on only previous visit here in April and while he's raced solidly in two starts since being gelded, that level of form would need improving on.
A better horse on the AW so if you take his two turf runs out of the equation then he's been racing consistently this year. Hampered at the start so did well to just go down a head when racing right up to his best last time. Likely contender.
Boasts a progressive early profile and since his debut he's run four times here with two initial wins. Unbeaten over 7f so this now looks ideal and another big run can be expected. Rates a leading hope.
Just three wins from 42 starts with the last coming in November 2017. Ran well over this C&D in June but below that in three starts in lesser company since. Place possibilities.
Won a C&D novice last year on his only previous visit here. Not far off that level at York on his handicap debut and possible the easier ground was an excuse for a poor run since. On a decent looking mark if bouncing back.
Has good form over this C&D and now 1lb lower than sole Wolverhampton win in January. Form has been mixed since and his recent efforts would need improving on in this company.
Forecasts
Karnavaal (11/8), Habub (9/2), San Carlos (9/2), Areen Heart (8/1), Papa Stour (8/1), Blame Culture (8/1), Maksab (12/1), Atletico (16/1)
SAN CARLOS remains unbeaten in two starts over this C&D and following two good efforts over a mile and 6f here since, is taken to continue on an upward curve. Blame Culture is an obvious danger following an eye-catching run in defeat last time and is very reliable. Karnavaal is worth another chance for his powerful connections.
