Beaten a head when runner-up in a handicap over an extended 1m at Nottingham (good) on his penultimate start; fair fifth over the same C&D on soft going subsequently and this drop in trip/AW switch shouldn't inconvenience too much.

Left Ed Dunlop for 15,000gns in February and makes his belated debut for this Cumbrian based trainer following wind surgery; goes on Tapeta and is very handily weighted on peak form; one to note in the market exchanges; stablemate of La Cumparsita.

Steps onto the AW for just the third time but has had plenty of chances on turf since winning at Hamilton (6f, good to firm) in June 2018; 4lb lower than when runner-up at Beverley (7½f) in May.

Most effective over 1m on Fibresand at Southwell; has struggled on both starts for this yard since leaving the care of Roger Fell; needs to get back on track.

Chased home the ultra-consistent Betty Grable at Ayr (1m, good to firm) in May and feasibly found the race coming too soon at Beverley subsequently; off for 71 days since; low-mileage on the AW and on a handy mark.

Has shown his very best form on the AW, including when scoring over C&D in January; 2lb higher in newly applied cheekpieces but with a number of more recent modest turf efforts to leave behind.

Runner-up on Fibresand at Southwell (7f, novice) last November; unsurprisingly struggled to get involved on handicap debut (5f) but fared little better over an extended mile at Hamilton latest either; easing in the weights.

10lb lower than when finishing second to Gowanbuster over 6f here in April but well wide of the target in five subsequent starts; with an overall career record of 1-28 he's worth opposing.

Twice placed on turf as a juvenile for John Quinn (7f-7½f); mid to rear division on both starts for this trainer (in handicaps); eases a further 4lb in the weights and the cheekpieces are now applied; market potentially helpful.

Like so many of the Ben Haslam string has thrived for the switch to racing on Tapeta, winning back-to-back races here (7f-1m) during April; 3lb above his last winning mark; is he quite in the same form now?

1lb higher than when dead-heating with Mi Capricho at Musselburgh (7f, good to firm) in May; 0-6 on the AW and less productive since, albeit Katie Scott was among the winners at Catterick on Tuesday with Night Law.

Visited the winners enclosure for the first time at Redcar (7f, good to firm) 18 days ago; 4lb higher but hails from a yard knocking in winners left, right and centre; is clearly effective at this track and must have a major say.

La Cumparsita22

Made a solid start to life in England, winning over 7f at Chelmsford in April; the signs are that she's far less effective on turf, so will surely appreciate a switch back to the AW; one of two declared runners for this trainer.

Sharrabang28
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-10| J: Cam Hardie| T: Mrs Stella Barclay| OR:  55| D

Has some reasonably fair AW form (Tapeta and Fibresand) in the book; 20-1 when making all and springing a surprise in a 7f Carlisle maiden handicap (good to firm) four weeks ago; 3lb higher.

18:00 Newcastle - 8 August 2019 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

A wide open 7f handicap in which the market will hopefully provide some clues to the Tristan Davidson-trained duo La Cumparsita and the attractively weighted Global Humour. Blazing Dreams returns to Newcastle (from an elevated mark) seeking an upturn in form while both Sharrabang and FIRSTEEN were last time out winners. With the Alistair Whillans string continuing in an excellent run of form during the past 3-4 weeks, we'll opt to stick with the Redcar scorer who is also clearly equally effective at this track. At a bigger price, Mywayistheonlyway is worth considering for an each-way interest.
