Arrives here bidding for hat-trick having followed up a C&D success with a 7f win at Catterick last time out. Has another 6lb penalty to cope with and has to carry a big weight as a result but clearly only going one way at present.

Very impressive winner over C&D last time but the more fancied rivals in that race gave him first run. Still feasibly handicapped under a 3lb penalty and while not certain to get things all his own way, he's run many of his better race here.

Three of his seven wins have come over C&D, the latest just short of a year ago but hasn't managed to win again since. Recent efforts haven't suggested a return to form is near but dangerously well-handicapped if he can bounce back.

Won from an 18lb higher handicap mark at the start of last season but has been in no sort of form in six runs this year and failed to beat a rival home at Beverley last time. Seemingly better at the minimum trip and others preferred.

Won three times last year and back below his last winning handicap mark after some below par effort this season. Step back up in trip will suit though and the fitting of first-time cheekpieces could spark a revival. May go well from ideal draw.

C&D specialist (four wins) who is becoming very well-handicapped on old form. Well backed here prior to disappointing two starts ago and given too much to do when fifth of 13 last time. Sure to bounce back at some point.

Forecasts

Beryl The Petal (2/1), Round The Island (9/4), Highly Sprung (9/2), Mr Orange (5/1), Musharrif (11/2), Rickyroadboy (8/1), Space War (12/1), Requinto Dawn (14/1)

21:05 Pontefract - 19 July 2019 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

There's a host of well-handicapped runners in this finale as well as some in-form types but BERYL THE PETAL is the one who makes most appeal in her hat-trick bid. She had a fair amount in hand last time out and could be the one to beat with course and distance form in the book. Rickyroadboy has looked as if he's been crying out for the step back up in trip in recent starts and can go well again. Round The Island is at his best at this venue and shaped like a return to form may be near last time out.
