Managed to get off the mark for his new stable when landing the Carlisle bell (1m, good to firm) last week after some mediocre performances. Raised 4lb for that success and races from 1lb out of the handicap but tough to beat if in same form.
Shock winner at Hamilton two starts ago but found life tough when soundly beaten in 1m2f York handicap on latest start last month. 4lb above last winning mark and others make more appeal.
Mixed start to life for new stable and didn't back up creditable Wetherby effort when eighth of 17 at York (1m1f, good to soft) last time out. Will need to improve on that effort to be competitive.
Backed up promising stable debut when landing 1m maiden handicap at Redcar in commanding style. Harshly raised 7lb for that win but is open to further improvement. Leading player.
C&D on seasonal debut in April but has struggled to replicate that form since, most recently when third of four at Leicester (1m2f, good to firm) in May. Needs to bounce back but solid claims at this track.
In good form this season and made two wins from three starts with authoritative 1m Haydock success. 6lb penalty for that shouldn't be no problem. Leading player.
Mediocre return from absence in 1m2f Epsom handicap but well treated on previous form last season. Needs to improve on return but will appreciate the drop in trip and grade.
Out of sorts form-wise this season, including seventh of 11 at Beverley (1m, good) on latest start and remains 4lb above last winning mark which was over C&D. Entitles some respect but likely to find this tough.
Forecasts
Spiorad (15/8), Rousayan (7/2), Kheros (5/1), Smile A Mile (5/1), Frankelio (11/1), Mont Kinabalu (14/1), Casement (20/1), Ghalib (25/1)
Many are entitled to claims in this contest but SMILE A MILE is the preference. He's a usual progressive type for a powerful Northern trainer and it would be no shock to see him take this in his stride. Rousayan was an impressive winner last week in the historic Carlisle Bell but is likely to find the weight to be a hindrance over this trip while Spiorad is likely be the best of the rest as well.
