Showed snippets of decent form during his time with Andre Fabre in France but lost his way last year. Some encouragement on his British debut at Leicester last month, but stiff enough test giving weight away to mainly younger rivals here.

Set to race from 3lb below his last winning mark but possible this trip is just short of his best, and two starts this season leave a lot to be desired.

Won at Chester last year, and mixes Flat with hurdling on a regular basis. Ran well enough when 2¼L second of 9 to Regular Income at Nottingham in May, but probably needs to raise his game to defy his current mark in this sphere.

Just 2lb higher than when winning overt this trip at Leicester in May 2018, and looked to be coming back to form on penultimate start. Disappointing at Sandown last time, though, finding little after travelling well. Bit to prove after that.

Bounced back to form after a series of lifeless runs when second of 14 to My Boy Sepoy at Sandown in May, and built on that when winning at Nottingham last time. Nothing in hand there, and may be vulnerable after a small rise.

Impressive 5L winner over an extended 1m1f at Wolverhampton in November last year, and best effort since when a keeping-on fifth over 1m½f there last time. Not so good on turf this far, but still early days with him.

Thriving since switched to handicaps, winning around 1m at Nottingham and Ripon. Headed late when second of 9 to Edmond Dantes in 1¼m apprentices event at Goodwood last time, and every chance if cheekpieces can help him squeeze out a little more.

Has plenty of experience in handicaps, but eked out a bit more improvement when winning at Doncaster (1m, soft) last time, coming late off a strong pace. Needs to show he can back that up now returned to 1¼m, but obvious claims if he does.

Disappointing on handicap debut at Sandown, but ran better when third to Conundrum at Leicester next time. Was 2L behind runner-up Silkstone there, and is now 7lb better off. so not dismissed if maintaining progress.

Twice over 1m for Michael Bell but disappointing the last twice. Sold for 25,000 gns in October, but couldn't show what he can do when rearing badly and taking no part on his return at Nottingham. Needs to prove that incident was a one-off.

Forecasts

Cardano (5/2), Starfighter (4/1), Dramatic Device (6/1), Shir Khan (6/1), Silkstone (13/2), Cornborough (9/1), Sweet Charity (11/1), Tangramm (20/1), Midnight Wilde (20/1), Tribal Commander (33/1)

17:00 Newmarket - 29 June 2019 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

The younger generation should dominate this with a number of improving sorts on show, and the pick is CARDANO, who was denied only late when trying this trip for the first time at Goodwood, and can get back to winning ways with cheekpieces now tried. Silkstone was helpoed by the strong pace at Doncaster last time, but is proven over this trip, and seems to be firmly back on the up, so is feared, with Starfighter, a place behind him at Leicester last time, and now 7lb better off, also worthy of a second look.
  1. Cardano
  2. Silkstone
  3. Starfighter
