Had a breathing op and a change of yard since showing some fair form in minor events when with John Quinn as a juvenile. Not really come to terms with handicaps yet but gets his first try at this trip off a career-low mark.

Looks to run her best races in cheekpieces and was certainly seen to better effect last time on the AW in them over this trip when finishing runner-up. Conceded first run on that occasion; could well have a part to play if ready to go off a break.

First run since being gelded last time off a four month break but it appeared to make little difference. Most of his form at this sort of trip is modest and he would need to improve on the best of it to make his mark here.

Could have some claims based on his AW handicap form earlier in the year the best of which was a second off 1lb lower at Lingfield over 1m. Ran poorly on his turf debut last time out at Redcar over 6f; tries 7f now with blinkers on first-time.

Ran very well returned to turf at Chepstow (6f, good/firm) last time having been gelded since he was last seen. Still very lightly-raced the cheekpieces (first-time) are now applied upped to 7f for his second try in handicaps; looks a player.

This will only be her sixth run so she's still relatively unexposed and she may well have needed the run last time on the AW over 1m. Quite well found in the market on that occasion she returns to turf for the first time in a handicap; has chances.

Handicap newcomer who hasn't shown that much in three minor events so far faring little better on each occasion. This will also be his first time on turf having been gelded since he was last seen; looks one of the lesser lights.

Won a Redcar seller for Mick Channon last year over 5f looking better than that grade but hasn't so far sparked for this stable in mixture of events (including handicaps). Yet to try this trip having run respectably over 5f here last time.

Connections got three quick runs into her late last year to gain a mark over 6f/1m (ran very free when last seen). Looks a potential improver now that she's had a break and goes handicapping for the first-time; market watch advised.

Handicaps looked very much the idea when he was trained in Ireland but his form in two GB runs (for this stable) has been modest to say the least. Well held when last seen he returns from an absence with plenty to prove.

Stepped forward on her previous performances when making her turf/handicap debut at Chepstow (6f, good/firm) last time (still modest form though). Has work to do with Dark Poet on that running but shouldn't be too far off the mark.

All of her form so far has come on the AW and she makes her turf debut here. Well held in minor events at 7f/1m including two handicaps it's hard to see her being good enough to win this.

The visor is now popped on to see if that piece of headgear can deliver any better results that the blinkers that have been worn on all three starts for this yard. Finished midfield in a 6f classified event when last seen on the AW; more needed.

Blinkers go on for the first-time as he makes his handicap debut although his run so far can only be classed as poor with little ability on display. Even at this level he's hard to recommend on what he's done so far.

15:05 Brighton - 21 May 2019 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

A certain amount of guesswork is needed with three-year-old handicaps but the key to this one looks to be the 6f event at Chepstow earlier this month which saw DARK POET finish fifth and Frea one place behind. Both have to cope with the return to 7f but have shown that can cope with this trip and it’s hardly a stiff 7f at the South Coast track. Global Goddess and Sonnetina are two other that have chances if they can cope with an absence and return to turf respectively. Lady Morphheus can’t be ignored given her connections despite her weak form so far with a switch to handicaps off a winter break expected to bring her on; any market move should be taken note of.
  1. Dark Poet
  2. Global Goddess
  3. Frea
