Fair in bumpers and a winner on hurdles debut when trained in Ireland he doubled his tally over hurdles when scoring on debut for his current yard at Sedgefield (2m4f). Carries a double penalty here but good chance of scoring again.

7/4
Dual winning hurdler who got his career off to a good start before finding a competitive handicap at Ascot last time all too much. Still has to carry a double penalty here but will find this a little easier back in novice company.

Placed in Irish point-to-points he offered little on his hurdling debut and fared no better the second time in a first-time hood. Struggled to make an impact on those two starts at Sedgefield and Kelso; back in trip but still outclassed.

100/1
Modest Flat performer (scored over 2m on AW at Newcastle) for his former yard and now makes his stable debut. Has run once over hurdles before (May 2017) having shown promise in two bumpers prior to that; best watched though.

Improved from his first two bumper starts to take one at Uttoxeter last summer (made all, still looked green). Didn't run badly on his second hurdles start (needs more emphasis on stamina); this trip looks on the short side plus fitness concerns.

Age: 4|  Weight: 10-9| J: Callum Bewley| T: C Grant
66/1
Yet to get anywhere near his Flat form over hurdles although he may well have needed the run on his stable debut/second run over hurdles last time. Well held last time but not without ability and may prove to be more one for handicaps later on.

3/1
Dual French Flat winner in 2018 (both wins coming at around 1m2f) he cost €190,000 on his switch to his current yard. Well beaten in both starts over hurdles but he hasn't been given an easy start (both were Graded events); much better to come.

Forecasts

Whoshotthesheriff (5/4), Liva (7/4), Pagero (3/1), Staged Engagement (14/1), Namazee (66/1), Forbidding (100/1), Elixer (200/1)

14:50 Carlisle - 20 April 2019 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

Only a small field but plenty of interest with the betting likely to favour the two doubly penalised runners with WHOSHOTTHESHERIFF favoured over Liva although he will need to just tidy up his jumping that looked rather sloppy in the closing stages last time. Pagero is the one who could well be the improver with his sights lowered from the two Grade 2 races he’s been asked to contest so far and the betting may well tell the story of his ambitions here. Staged Engagement looks a capable sort but his fitness wouldn’t be assured and he looks to need a greater test of stamina than this C&D will provide.
  1. Whoshotthesheriff
  2. Pagero
  3. Liva
