Son of Iffraaj landed a major upset on debut in November when a 50/1 winner over 1m½f at Wolverhampton. Bred for further and very much looked like he would appreciate it there but 7lb penalty tough for a nose winning margin.

Second foal from a 1m1f-1m4f Group 1 winning dam (in South Africa) made a pleasing start at Newcastle two weeks ago when winning as 8/11F despite running greenly early on. 7lb penalty but will have learned plenty there and could easily follow up.

Son of Shamardal made a winning debut at Newcastle in January over this trip despite looking like he may need even further in time. Penalised for that narrow success and interesting William Buick aboard Jalmoud hinting that one more fancied.

Newcomer by Cape Cross a 475,000gns yearling; first foal; dam Swedish 1m winner (inc at 2/champion 3yo filly in Scandinavia;), sister to French/US 1m1f Gr 3 winner Wekeela. Well related but will need to be smart to go close here on debut.

Bated Breath half-brother to useful 2-y-o 6f winner Phijee and 7f-1½m winner White Shaheen was slow into stride before making minor late gains when sixth of nine over 1m½f at Nottingham in only run so far. This will be a tough ask.

Havana Gold colt made a most encouraging debut at Lingfield just over two weeks ago when beaten a head in a 1m novice contest having led most of the way. Longer trip to suit pedigree-wise and jockey booking another positive.

Beautifully bred son of Oaks and multiple Group 1 winner Dancing Rain raced greenly before staying on for second on debut at Newcastle last October. Should come into his own this season (both parents Classic winners) and yard won this 12 months ago.

375,000gns foal by Sea The Stars; 12th foal; brother to 1m 2yo winner Big Challenge and half-brother to 8 winners inc Raymi Coya (5f-1m inc 2yo Gr 3) & Hikari (1m3f). Bred to appreciate this sort of trip and one of three for Godolphin here.

Nathaniel filly stayed on for fourth of 12 at Wolverhampton on debut over 7f last December. Should come on for that and this sire excels with middle-distance three-year-olds so not ruled out by any means.

Forecasts

Jalmoud (15/8), El Misk (9/4), One Vision (6/1), Cape Cavalli (13/2), Mons Star (11/1), Eightsome Reel (25/1), Doughan Alb (25/1), Vindolanda (33/1), Catch My Breath (100/1)

16:45 Newmarket - 17 April 2019 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

Charlie Appleby runs two with live chances here but the beautifully bred JALMOUD is of particular interest and there was enough encouragement in her debut second at Newcastle to put her forward here despite facing three horses already with wins to their name. Of those three El Misk for champion trainer John Gosden makes most appeal after a comfortable debut win. Vindolanda looks the sort who could take a major step forward now upped 3f in trip and she could prove a value alternative.
  1. Jalmoud
  2. El Misk
  3. Vindolanda
