50/1
Eight-race maiden on the Flat (rated 57); last appearance at Kempton in November 2017 (for Lucy Wadham); with new connections for hurdles debut.

Biddy Be169
Age: 6|  Weight: 10-12| J: Mr Aiden Blakemore(7)| T: Mark Campion| OR:  88
66/1
Demonstrated bits and pieces of form over hurdles in Ireland (strongest at 2m4f) for previous trainer Henry De Bromhead; reappears for a new trainer off a 169-day absence.
3
Horse silk
Darling Du Large22
Age: 6|  Weight: 10-12| J: J J Burke| T: T R George| OR:  114
7/4
Raced keenly on hurdles debut at Ludlow (2m, good) but better held up off the pace next time at Exeter (2m1f, good to soft) when finishing 10½L third to Epatante; handles soft and this looks to be an ideal opportunity.
Has witnessed precious little racing in recent years, but was running reasonably well until ducking out at the third last over C&D (mares' novices') in January; this mare couldn't be trusted implicitly.

Paper Promise38
Age: 7|  Weight: 10-12| J: Craig Nichol| T: D W Whillans| D
1/2
Dual bumper scorer (including on heavy); found the minimum trip on the sharp side when outpaced behind an odds-on shot of Gordon Elliott's at Ayr latest; has scope to progress at a realistic level; chance.
7
Horse silk
33/1
Has achieved little of any significance since taking a 2m bumper on debut at this track in April 2018 (on Tapeta); difficult to envisage how she can be positively involved.
8
Horse silk
Western Lass38
Age: 6|  Weight: 10-12| J: S Mulqueen(3)| T: K Scott
28/1
Acquitted herself reasonably well in bumpers (without winning) throughout the course of 2017; appeared in need of the run when finishing last 14 on hurdles debut (80/1) at Ayr.

Forecasts

Paper Promise (1/2), Darling Du Large (7/4), See The Sea (5/1), Missesgeejay (20/1), Western Lass (28/1), Summer Lightening (33/1), Bermondsey Belle (50/1), Biddy Be (66/1)

14:00 Newcastle - 16 March 2019 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

A particularly modest opener, in which only a couple of the runners can be considered as realistic winners. Paper Promise will handle the soft ground and is open to a degree of improvement over hurdles (in her grade). However, the standout form-based choice is the Tom George-trained DARLING DU LARGE who settled much better over obstacles at Exeter, and can become just a second ever jumps winner at Newcastle for today's rider Jonathan Burke.
  1. Darling Du Large
  2. Paper Promise
  3. Biddy Be
