5/4
Four wins in his last five starts shows that he's a progressive sort; proven at distances up to 1m2f. Already a C&D winner he now faces his stiffest task yet off a career-high mark; does look as though he can improve again despite the drop in trip.

Smart handicapper when with William Haggas in 2017 he returned last month for this yard without his usual headgear making his Tapeta debut (7f). Still looks unexposed over this trip (only one previous try); far from out of this.

Has a good strike-rate on the Flat (7-24); C&D winner on his penultimate start in December off a 5lb lower mark. Not seen to best effect last time over this trip at Lingfield (raced off the pace); still looks on a good mark, respected.

Back from a break with a win over C&D off a 1lb lower mark in December taking advantage of an overall fall in the weights; has a good record fresh. Two runs since haven't been as taking though; faces a stiff task here.

Course winner who recorded three wins last year (all at a slightly lower level). Failed to match his last win over 6f at Kempton over a variety of trips but failed to match his previous form last time out; may find this beyond him.

Michele Strogoff16
Age: 6|  Weight: 8-12| J: Alistair Rawlinson| T: M Appleby| OR:  90| D
7/1
Produced a career best to land a Wolverhampton handicap over further on his penultimate start; given far too much rope by his rivals. Not afforded the same scope last time he still shaped well enough; place chance at best though.

Tough Remedy39
Age: 4|  Weight: 8-11| J: Andrew Breslin(5)| T: K Dalgleish| OR:  89| D
7/1
Good record on Tapeta (1131) he comes here with questions to answer on this surface having disappointed on his one Polytrack outing. Could do with a strong pace to aim at and probably better than he's shown so far the surface doubt remains.

Forecasts

Matterhorn (5/4), Battered (4/1), Breden (5/1), Tough Remedy (7/1), Michele Strogoff (7/1), Calling Out (16/1), Eljaddaaf (33/1)

19:15 Chelmsford City - 20 February 2019 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

A good event over 1m with some interesting and potentially progressive types in opposition with perhaps the best of those being MATTERHORN who very much gives the impression that he could be better than a handicapper. He looks an uncomplicated sort and more straightforward that Battered who created a positive impression on his return but does have his quirks. Tough Remedy is another on the up although he has to really prove himself on this surface and the riders won’t want to give front running Michele Strogoff too much rope with Breden another expected to be in the mix.
  1. Matterhorn
  2. Battered
  3. Breden
