Clan Des Obeaux52

4/9
Always held in high regard by his trainer who has won this race eight times since 2000 and showed just why when beating a stat studded field in the King George last time out. That form exceptional and marked him a Gold Cup contender; hard to oppose.

33/1
Dual handicap winner finished third the last twice in decent Cheltenham contests. Consistency means handicaps now a tall order but likely find this even tougher.

Age: 7|  Weight: 11-4| J: R Johnson| T: T Lacey| OR:  145| D
12/1
Promise of novice campaign not yet fulfilled with this season largely frustrating. Favourite for big handicaps but disappointed and now goes up in class so life only gets tougher.

Terrefort21
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-3| J: N de Boinville| T: N J Henderson| OR:  159
5/2
Dual Grade One winning novice who jumped excellently in each of those successes. Disappointing on return this season but better latest at Cheltenham after a break. Still on the comeback trail but potential to give fav a race.

Forecasts

Clan Des Obeaux (4/9), Terrefort (5/2), Thomas Patrick (12/1), Ballyhill (33/1)

14:45 Ascot - 16 February 2019 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

CLAN DES OBEAUX marked himself down as a genuine Gold Cup contender when winning impressively in the King George and that form should see him a comfortable winner of this. Terrefort is smart in his own right and he could well improve for his recent reappearance so rates the logical alternative. Thomas Patrick has been disappointing but is interesting for big handicaps at the festivals.
