Still a maiden but does have ability. Posted a respectable effort on his return from wind surgery when third at Newcastle last month. Can make the running but vulnerable to a strong finisher.
Improved couple of efforts since joining his current yard and capable of figuring strongly at this level. Shown a good attitude lately. Shortlist material here at least.
Formerly useful in point-to-points and has adapted well to racing under rules. Best effort so far when making all to win at Doncaster (extended 3m, good) in December. Better than he showed last time; no surprise if he bounces back here.
Ran accordingly as an outsider in the Champion Bumper last season and things not quite gelled for him over hurdles so far. Probably needs a little more time and experience.
Plenty of encouragement to take from his last two starts and should strip a lot fitter now he's got the benefit of a seasonal run behind him. One to bear in mind if the betting vibes are positive.
Hit form at the right time and possible he's still got more to offer whilst his confidence can be booming after a couple of recent wins. Up 5lb for the latest win and more to do, but not discounted over a trip which suits.
Mixing hurdles and fences of late but is yet to actually win a race over timber. Has experience of this C&D but possible he's better over the larger obstacles these days.
Forecasts
Uno Mas (2/1), Lord Du Mesnil (4/1), Shaman Du Berlais (9/2), Volcano (9/2), Duffy Allen (10/1), Ratfacemcdougall (10/1), Heresmynumber (12/1)
The penny seems to be dropping with SHAMAN DU BERLAIS, who is still open to improvement and can be a force to reckoned with if he settles better now he races over a longer trip. Uno Mas is in good form and may be up to shrugging off his 5lb rise for readily winning at Catterick last time; he is feared along with Ratfacemcdougall, who completes the shortlist as potential improvers.
