6/1
Front-running hurdler; has a good strike rate in this sphere of 9-24 with his best recent form coming at Wetherby. Has struggled twice since his most recent run off higher marks (dropped 3lb here); this trip may well stretch him (2m his usual trip).

Ted Veale16
Age: 12|  Weight: 11-12| J: Mr Kit Alexander(5)| T: N W Alexander| OR:  134| BF
20/1
Useful sort over hurdles/fences in the past but now fast approaching the veteran stage; makes his Rules debut for this yard on the back of two point-to-point starts (won one). Not cut much slack in the handicap but hard to rule out for in-form yard.

Far from harshly treated off this mark although the long losing run is a negative (hard to win with of late). Caught the eye on a recent return from a break (travelled well; kept on at the finish) over this trip; hard to leave out of calculations.

10/11
Only has a maiden hurdle win to his name but went close on his reappearance at Cheltenham against a well fancied/treated rival (2m5f, good). Had a hard race there and disappointed next time (soft ground); returns from a wind op, bounce back possible.

Craig Starp24
Age: 9|  Weight: 10-4| J: Abbie McCain(7)| T: D McCain Jnr| OR:  112| CD
9/2
The only C&D winner in the field he also won the opening race on the card last year under today's pilot. That was his last victory (now 4lb below that mark) and looks on a winnable mark although his recent form has lacked application; best watched.

Quite a few that have claims of varying strength with Sky Khan likely to be one of the more popular selections after his eye-catching run at Wetherby last time out although he will need to jump better to make a more effective challenge. Ted Veale the 2013 County Hurdle winner is still going strong and this versatile sort can’t be ruled out despite his veteran status. KATGARY with Danny McMenamin a booking well worth noting may well be able to take advantage of a return to hurdling off an ever-lenient mark having tuned up over fences here last time. Mahlervous is a rare runner at the track for Warren Greatrex and he won’t be far away if repeating his earlier Cheltenham form.
  1. Katgary
  2. Sky Khan
  3. Mahlervous
