6/1
Capable of some top-class form at Grade 1 level (won twice on that stage in 2016) and has run consistently well since then. Back to near his best last time winning the Haldon Gold Cup for the 2nd time appreciating the slight ease in class.

Art Mauresque36
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-0| J: H Cobden| T: P F Nicholls| OR:  152| D
15/2
Smart chaser although his last win came over two years go now despite going close on a few occasions (has a propensity to finish weakly). That trait was much in evidence last time when caught close home at Ascot over 3m; likely to find one too good.

Beggar's Wishesb,t9
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-0| J: S Bowen| T: P & M Bowen| OR:  150
25/1
Usually found in decent handicap company and this is a step up in grade for him having had his winning run ended at Newbury recently (harshly dealt with by the handicapper). Deserves a chance at this level but likely to be outclassed.

Charbelp15
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-0| J: N D Fehily| T: K Bailey & M Nicholls| OR:  159
13/8
Not far off the best of these on official ratings and appreciated the return to handicap company when defeating a subsequent top-class handicap winner at Chepstow. Up in class again next time to run 2nd to a genuine Grade 1 performer at Ascot (2m5f).

Hammersly Lake15
Age: 10|  Weight: 11-0| J: J J Burke| T: C E Longsdon| OR:  161| C| D
25/1
The highest rated of these due to winning two smart handicaps in the summer but has been found out at Graded level since (once over hurdles). Well behind Charbel at Ascot last time when last of 6 (2m4f) and likely to struggle again at this level.

Horse silk
Josses Hillp211
Age: 10|  Weight: 11-0| J: N de Boinville| T: N J Henderson| OR:  145| CDWS
9/1
Has a good record in this race (1st and 2nd) not won since taking this race in 2016. His recent record is rather patchy (pulled up twice in the last four outings) and he returns from a break having had a wind op; needs a return to form to figure.

Horse silk
San Benedetot15
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-0| J: Bryony Frost| T: P F Nicholls| OR:  150| D
17/2
Generally found wanting at this level now although he has won a Grade 1 chase during a purple patch in early 2017. That proved to be his last win though and his form this year despite showing some rays of hope would if repeated see him come up short.
9
Horse silk
Tea For Two203
Age: 9|  Weight: 11-0| J: Lizzie Kelly| T: Mrs J Williams| OR:  160WS
13/2
Very smart chaser at his best (twice a Grade 1 winner; both over 3m+) and will be suited by the flat track. Third in last year's King George at Kempton (race run to suit) he's found life hard since then at the highest level; trip looks too sharp.

Horse silk
Rene's Girlt135
Age: 8|  Weight: 10-11| J: Harry Skelton| T: D Skelton| OR:  141| CD
12/1
All of her winning chase form has come against her own sex; capped a superb first season over fences with a 2nd versus the boys in an Aintree Grade 1. Shaped much better than the bare result on her return; jumps and travels well; player in this.

14:25 Huntingdon - 9 December 2018 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

The race returns to Huntingdon (run at Taunton last year) attracting a decent field with 2016 winner and 2017 runner-up Josses Hill returning from wind surgery in a bid to regain his crown but he faces a tough job to do so. CHARBEL showed last time out at Ascot that he was up to winning at this level and his Chepstow win giving subsequent BetVictor Gold Cup winner 12lb is on reflection a very solid piece of form. Rene’s Girl deserves her chance at this level judged on her Aintree run of last season despite having work to do on official ratings. A penalty has been carried successfully a few times in this race and that won’t rule out Haldon Gold Cup winner – God’s Own from making a bold bid.
