Very impressive when bolting up in the Lincoln and followed up in a Group 2 at Sandown next time. Fast ground wasn't in his favour when well beaten in the Lockinge but has been patiently campaigned and gets his ground again here.

Gained a third career Group 2 success at Goodwood last time, having won a C&D contest two starts earlier. A career best needed here but handles conditions and not easy to put a line through.

Group 3 winner earlier in the campaign and produced a career best when fourth of 15 in the Queen Anne over C&D. Not disgraced in a US Grade 1 last time and he's a consistent likeable sort. Needs more here though.

Makes his 87th career start here and has placed eight times in Group company including a couple of Group 1 races. Tends to be ridden to pick up the pieces and probably up against it in a race this competitive.

Belatedly landed his first Group 1 when winning the Sussex Stakes earlier in the campaign. Finished 2½L behind Recoletos last time though and the ground is probably against him here.

C&D winner. Won a Group 3 at York two starts back and a return to this course looks like a positive after his runs over C&D earlier in the campaign, most notably placed in the Queen Anne. Needs a career best but should get a decent pace to aim at.

Dual Group 1 winner at Longchamp and fourth here last year in the Champion Stakes. Better at this trip on this sort of ground and will love these conditions; brings a very smart level of form to the table here.

Placed twice in Group 1 company earlier in his career but held by Addeybb on their form from Sandown in Group 2 company and only third on his last couple of runs in weaker races than this. More needed.

Very consistent performer who has been running well in France throughout this campaign, including a narrow defeat in a Group 1. Will love these conditions and eye-catching that Dettori takes the ride.

Mightily impressive when winning the Juddmonte International and looked in a poor position before quickening up well to win the Irish Champion Stakes. Drop in trip should be fine but soft ground is a concern in his bid for a fourth straight Group 1.

Impressive when coming from a long way off the pace in the Irish 2,000 Guineas but seemingly a little flattered by that run judged on his form since. Yet to encounter ground this soft and others make more appeal.

Group 2 winner at Leopardstown two starts back but Happily and Laurens finished in front of her at Newmarket last time and she has a bit to find on form.

Laurens14

Very consistent and mightily tough to pass. Arrives bidding for a sixth Group 1 success and stayed on typically gamely to get the better of Happily last time but a straight mile might not play to her strengths and this is tougher against the colts.

15:15 Ascot - 20 October 2018 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

Roaring Lion has gone from strength to strength all season but he doesn't give the impression soft ground will be up his street and it might be worth taking a chance on the patiently trained ADDEYBB. William Haggas has held him back for an autumn campaign after the gelding proved he's not as effective on fast ground and he's less exposed than many in here. Recoletos is another who will relish conditions and ran well at this meeting last year while Laurens can't be ruled out after a fifth Group 1 success at Newmarket last time.
