Driven out by today's rider Rachel McDonald to take this race by a short-head from Oak Vintage in 2017 (heavy); competes from a 7lb higher mark today but often goes well fresh, so should be on the premises.

Beaten in excess of 2L by course specialist Reverse The Charge over C&D in September, but not so good in a better race at Kelso latest; 0-8 over fences (under rules).

Both of his wins have come over the minimum trip on testing ground from an official rating of 95 (Newcastle and Kelso); runner-up on sole chasing start at Hexham (November 2017), but dismounted when pulled up at Perth in June (2m, good).

Hasn't won under rules since May 2016 (2m1f Kelso, good to firm); placed on both previous starts at Hexham (2m4f), and looked in need of the race on his first run for 16 months at Perth 17 days ago; capable of better.

8/1
Eight-race maiden; has fallen 17lb in the weights since introduced to chasing over C&D in November 2017 (then with Rebecca Menzies); tough to fathom a realistic case for his chance despite the presence of newly-applied eye-shields.

Forecasts

Take A Break (7/4), John Williams (11/4), Reverse The Charge (11/4), Seven Devils (5/1), Charlie Snow Angel (6/1), Chateau Chinon (8/1), Cool Valley (17/2), Kisumu (16/1), My Idea (25/1)

16:35 Hexham - 13 October 2018 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

Reverse The Charge saves his very best for Hexham and should have the beating off his old foe Cool Valley based upon last month's C&D evidence, but the overnight forecast isn't favourable and connections will be hoping that the track misses the worst of the rain in order to maximise his chance. Therefore, the safest option is the ground versatile JOHN WILLIAMS. Although most effective at Musselburgh (there will be options for him there next month), he often runs best fresh and was a narrow winner of this race off a 7lb lower mark in 2017. Of the remainder, very little else makes any major appeal; albeit Seven Devils is worth keeping on side.
  1. John Williams
  2. Seven Devils
  3. Reverse The Charge
