Improved on his debut to get off the mark at Yarmouth (1m, good to firm) last time. More needed under his penalty, but entitled to consideration.

Stepped up on his debut when staying on strongly to win at Ayr (1m, soft) last time. Has race to race on a sound surface, so has to prove he is as effective on it, but can go well under his penalty.

14-1 and made a promising debut at Kempton (7f, AW) last month. Can come on both for that run and the step up to 1m.

Minor promise in two runs so far, but has shown nothing to suggest that he is capable of winning in this field.

14-1 and showed some promise when 6L fourth in a Newbury novice event (7f, good to soft) last month. Should come on a fair bit for that and this extra furlong looks positive. May well be involved this time.

Has been thereabouts on both starts, being held by just a neck when odds-on at Lingfield (1m, AW) last time. That is the strongest piece of form in this line-up, so a repeat would again make him tough to beat.

20-1 and green to begin with on debut at Lingfield (1m, AW) recently, but stayed on well enough to be 10½L third. Needs significant improvement to win this, but can probably show at least some of that.

Has produced a couple of promising performances so far, including here over 7f last time. Longer trip might help with some improvement, but perhaps more interesting when he has a handicap mark to work with.

50/1
4,000gns foal, €20,000 yearling, 15,000gns at two. Third foal. Dam 1m1½f and 1m4f AW winner. Stable in decent form and has had a couple of juvenile winners this season, so check the market. Pedigree suggests he will do better in time over further.

Improved on his debut when just edged out close to home at Pontefract (1m, good) last time. With a similar step forward this time, he would be entitled to consideration here.

32,000gns foal, 8.000gns yearling. Second foal. Dam 6f-1m2f winner (inc at two), half-sister to useful 7f-1m2f winner Speedy Approach. Some appeal on pedigree. Stable below usual juvenile strike rate at 11% this season. Market check.

7-1 and green early on on his Brighton debut, before coming home well to be just denied by a head (7f, good to firm). Looked like there would be more to come and should be a leading player is that is the case.

Has produced two similar efforts so far, both promising, and was just behind The Great Story at Pontefract last time. Claimer now assigned in a bid to turn those tables. Considered.

17:00 York - 12 October 2018 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

A tough race to call, but having looked at the pedigrees of the newcomers, it may pay to stick with those that we have already seen. Among those with claims are previous winners Felix and perhaps more so Lariat, but it is never easy to defy penalties and particularly in stronger-looking contests like this. Mardle could get involved, while Tribal Commander is not ruled out and The Great Story and Limelighter each has claims. However SAM COOKE sets a pretty good standard and there may still be more to come from him. He should be tough to topple.
