Vera Drake16
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-6| J: Oakley Brown(7)| T: R A Fahey| OR:  76
5/1
Remains a maiden after ten starts, but has plenty of placed form on turf, including when beaten a head over a similar trip at Doncaster in July. Capable enough from her current mark, but with limited AW experience.

The suitability of this extended 1m4f trip must be questionable, and whilst still an AW maiden (0-13), she was twice narrowly denied in similar handicaps at Wolverhampton (1m1f+) earlier in the year; returns from a break.

Trevenap127
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-2| J: L P Keniry| T: E Walker| OR:  72

Didn't achieve all that much in winning at Yarmouth in July (1m2f, good), and unable to get involved from off the pace on her first attempt over 1m4f at Newbury latest; wears cheekpieces on AW debut.

Left Marco Botti for 29,000gns in July, having previously finished third (last) to Trevena at Yarmouth (1m2f, good); out of her depth on stable debut last month and this looks more realistic from a falling mark.

9/4
Beaten 6½L (third) on her sole previous Newcastle start (1m2f novice); failed to make any major impression on handicap debut at Beverley last month (1m2f), when finishing fourth of eight to a subsequent winner; sister to C&D winner Stoney Broke.

Chantressep25
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-12| J: P J McDonald| T: K R Burke| OR:  68
3/1
An eight-race maiden, but with a largely consistent profile; no match for snug winner Cross My Mind over C&D last month, but far from disgraced and seemingly holds a reasonable enough chance despite a 2lb rise in the weights.

French Heroine20
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-11| J: D Tudhope| T: D Carroll| OR:  67
7/1
Cost 78,000gns as a yearling (once with William Haggas); hasn't shown a massive amount of promise in a couple of recent turf outings (1m2f-1m4f), but this race looks to be a better match (handicap/AW debut) with this trainer in fair form of late.

Forecasts

Blue Reflection (9/4), Chantresse (3/1), Trevena (7/2), Vera Drake (5/1), French Heroine (7/1), Sarvi (14/1), Perceived (33/1)

17:20 Newcastle - 3 September 2018 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

An opening race for the fillies in which forming a strong viewpoint isn't necessarily the easiest. Both Sarvi (Jim Goldie) and French Heroine (Declan Carroll) could prove capable of making their mark in a more suitable race, whilst there's every likelihood that both Vera Drake and Chantresse possess the required level of ability to be positively involved. However, preference is for the hooded BLUE REFLECTION, who is a full sister to the C&D winner Stoney Broke, and should show further improvement for this step up in trip.
  1. Blue Reflection
  2. Chantresse
  3. French Heroine
