Newcomer from a yard who look to have one of the market leaders in the contest. Cost €42,000 as a yearling and is a half-brother to French 1m2f winner Almazora; plenty of stamina on the dam's side; should come on for this experience.

Ended up finishing in midfield on his first run at Newmarket (7f, soft) having pulled too hard in the early part of the race. Looks to have something to learn but showed some ability also and with a Derby entry could be smart in time.

Shaped well on his nursery debut last time (looked better than his mark) but was unlucky to bump into a progressive rival with the 6f trip looking too sharp. Will benefit from a return to 7f and could put his experience to good use.

Failed to fire on his debut in a Goodwood maiden over 6f where ultimately he looked amiss (eased late on). Given the fact he started 5/1 he's clearly shown more at home and can be given another chance here.

Half-brother to several winners his yard have a relatively modest record with two-year-olds this year so far (3-36). Watching brief advised on debut unless the market says otherwise.

Price increased €10,000 from foal to yearling and he's the second newcomer from this yard in the race. Like his stablemate he's bound to be better for the experience and over further (fair bit of stamina in the pedigree).

8/1
Twice prominent in the market (started favourite for his debut) he's yet to live up to those market expectations having twice finished 3rd in small fields. May have shown more at home and looks one for nurseries once he has a mark.

Offered something to work on from his debut at Carlisle over 5f and whilst he didn't really progress on his next start he wasn't seen to best effect (awkward at the start; not ideally placed). Still looks to have potential and may do better over this

Just the one run to her name so far but has a pedigree that makes little appeal and held up she was soon left behind on debut. Would be a major surprise if she was good enough to get near the principals here.

Forecasts

Caballero (5/4), Buriram (2/1), Starfighter (8/1), Thierry (10/1), My Little Orphan (12/1), Gainsborough Hat (14/1), Beechwood Jude (50/1), Spirit Of Lund (80/1), Royal Countess (125/1)

14:10 Musselburgh - 29 August 2018 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

An interesting maiden to start the card with CABALLERO chosen to go one better than his 2nd place at Catterick last time over 6f on a track that looked too sharp for him, this 7f will suit him far better. He faces what look to be a couple useful once-raced types with Derby entry Buriram appearing to be the main danger as long as he settles better this time with Gainsborough Hat on a recovery mission from his Goodwood flop having been well fancied in the market. Both Starfighter and Thierry enter the mix although both will be seen to better effect in handicaps.
  1. Caballero
  2. Buriram
  3. Gainsborough Hat
