Split two well-fancied types in his second race in GB at Chester having shown ability on his debut after being bought cheaply and returning from a long absence (one run in France). Hard giving weight away but respected (may be better in handicaps).

Two runs on the AW when with John Gosden (only ran to a modest level) and is taking time to find his feet over hurdles. Now switched back to the Flat; finished down the field when tried over C&D before, others appeal more.

Hard to fancy having shown poor form in bumpers and nothing any better when switched to the Flat last time at Chepstow (1m4f). That was her debut for this yard and hard to really recommend on the basis of that outing.

Hinted at some ability on debut earlier in the year over 1m on turf (Newbury) in a race that has proved to be strong form. Blinkers (first-time) elicited a much better performance on the AW last time (did too much); more to come if he settles better.

Best of the rest to a wide-margin winner on his debut on the AW (7f) but was beaten 9L by a strong favourite. Not disgraced on that occasion but more needed to land an event like this.

Looked in need of the experience on his debut at Nottingham (1m, good) but showed no progress on his second start switched to the AW over 6f. Hard to shape a case for him on that evidence.

Offered some hope on his debut from a race that has worked out well but there was an element in his performance that suggested he was one for the long-term. Showed that to be the case last time and looks one for handicaps after this.

Age: 3|  Weight: 9-0| J: M Harley| T: W J Haggas
9/1
From a yard in sparkling form her form so far has looked rather modest in two runs separated by an 8-month gap. Both of those runs on turf have come over 7f and she looks as though as 1m plus is needed switching to the AW; poorly drawn.

There has been steady and no more improvement from her three runs and she still looked green when last seen here over 5f in March. This will be her second run back from wind surgery and she's best watched still; one for the longer-term.

Solar Gold45
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-0| J: Callum Shepherd| T: C Hills| OR:  79
4/1
Has a rather mixed pedigree and this 7f trip may be the one that suits her the best. Her debut effort suggested that she could win a race of this nature but that enthusiasm has been rather tempered by her last two efforts which have lacked progress.

Spiced23
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-0| J: Liam Jones| T: W J Haggas
16/1
In good hands for one who has a stylish pedigree although it's very obvious that she is still learning her trade in two starts so far at up to 1m. Not unduly punished last time but going the right way to gain a modest mark for one with her pedigree.

Wilbury Twist58
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-0| J: David Egan| T: R Varian
10/3
Failed to stay 1m at Goodwood last time on soft ground having shown something to work on from her debut over 7f on better ground. Pedigree suggests that this surface should suit as should the drop back to 7f; definite claims.

Forecasts

Documenting (9/4), Wilbury Twist (10/3), Solar Gold (4/1), Brexiteer (7/1), Hateel (9/1), Spiced (16/1), Domestic Way (16/1), Rivendicato (50/1), Royal Rattle (100/1), Zillion (125/1), Gracie Stansfield (200/1), Maximum Vision (200/1)

14:50 Wolverhampton - 29 July 2018 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

It’s generally hard for the older horses to give weight away to improving three-year-olds and that may prove the case for Documenting here although a low draw and a front-running ride will make him one to watch. Solar Gold hasn’t really progressed as expected so far and Brexiteer would be preferred although he needs a more conservative ride than he got last time. Several of these will be better in handicaps and over a little further like the Haggas duo Hateel and Spiced although both have good pedigrees and progress on their runs so far would not be a surprise. WILBURY TWIST is the suggestion she should be suited by this surface and trip better having shown plenty of debut promise.
  1. Wilbury Twist
  2. Documenting
  3. Spiced
