In tremendous form this season and returns to the scene of his five previous C&D wins, three of which came in succession in June/July. Has since scored at Chester, so is now 8lb higher than his last win here, but may still be more in the locker.
Sole win was on AW in France last year, over similar trip. 0-6 on turf. Joined current trainer from Freddie Head prior to two recent runs, when pulled up over hurdles and then 42L last of 10 at Wolverhampton recently. Headgear on but can only watch.
Won on soft (1m2f) at Doncaster in March. Now 1-19 under both codes. Not disgraced over this trip at Ayr last time, when 2½L fifth. 1lb drop, but more needed.
Ran well over C&D two starts ago, when 1½L second from 5lb lower. Improved on that when winning at Bath (1m2f, firm) latest. Form of that race has not worked out well, but that is not to say she can't improve again and follow-up.
Went well here over 7½f in May, when 2L second from 4lb lower. Has since won over 1m at Chepstow and also run well at Pontefract last time from today's mark. Could improve a bit more for this step up in trip. Not ruled out.
Showed a bit of ability in novices company and on his handicap debut last season (both over 7f, inc on good to firm). Well held on his last two starts, however, and headgear now goes on. Bit to prove.
Ran over sprint trips as a juvenile, his best effort being the third and final run at Nottingham (6f, good to soft) about a year ago. Since gelded and was beaten 14L from 3lb higher on handicap debut (1m, good to firm) latest. More needed.
Forecasts
Bit Of A Quirke (7/4), Geetanjali (9/4), Ideal Candy (4/1), Moakkad (8/1), Golconda Prince (10/1), Burnieboozle (25/1), Mr Young (50/1)
An interesting contest where the unexposed filly Geetanjali looks likely to be a leading player again, but the form at the this venue of BIT OF A QUIRKE is very persuasive, and he may be able to eek out enough improvement to defy another rise and score here for the sixth time. Ideal Candy makes some appeal, while there are others lurking that suggest an eye on the market could be prudent.
